coin mech disabling and hi score remembering
#298636 - 11/07/12 08:50 PM

Hi, first post on any forum so dont have a go if its in the wrong place just tell me where and how to move it I`m building my first mame cabinet and got everything working laid out on a table, currently building the cabinet all done bar the painting and carbon fibre gubbings, just wondering if theres a way to disable the coin mech from accepting coins or keeping credits when a games changed exited?
running the newest mala frontend i could find (if its not already old and has been disbanded cos it was really easy to personalise for my level of computer skills) and mame 146, mini-pac and the coin mech is a wei-ya HI-07CS, and my other question is which is the oldest version of mame i can use which can remember hi scores and hopefully keep all my currently working roms running, thanks in advance, Cavey

Just a heads up, any discussion of coin mechs here is heavily frowned upon. Even if your setup is completely innocent, MAMEDEV and other interested parties don't want to provide assistance to anyone who might want to set up an illegal, for-profit system.

To answer your last question, your best bet is to use the latest MAME and turn on automatic save states. The state of the game (including the high score) will be saved when you exit and loaded when you launch. Not every game supports save states, but a good many do. It's less buggy than the old high score saving, plus you don't have to muck around with obsolete versions of MAME.

let me be clear from the start, the machine I`m making is a glorified money box for my living room, but when i bought the "arcade" kit it came with a coin mech and i`ve got it working and i`m saving my money with it, i was only asking whether it could be disabled until a game is selected as it accepts MY (and ONLY my money) even when no game is selected and that doesnt feel good, appreciate the warning though.

On the other note is there an actual list of the games that support the "save state"? save me trying to work it all out, Thanks
