You had to do it didn't you! Thanks a lot ! I thought the icons had been left out from an update so I spent hours renaming all the old 1's & was just about to start creating 1's that had never been made & you go & release new 1's, well atleast you saved me a job, but please keep updating them!
THANKS & NICE WORK !!

I've tested recent mameui source even on my work PC.
MAMEUI does read pre defined mame.ini but when I tried to set anything it always returns to default values.
Simply run mameui without any config, enter options, default options and for example set window mode. Press OK and run any game - it starts in full screen.

Yes it is a bug. I noticed this in one of my latest internal release of MAMEUIFX and spent hours to track down and fix. My source code is quite different from MAMEUI in some files but if I'll have the time I'll try to fix there too. I was hoping MAMEUI was not affected but I was wrong.

I can build MAME command-line fine, but when I go to build MAMEUI, I am getting this. Any thoughts? Did they change the way things are built? Thanks.
Code:
Compiling src/osd/windows/winutf8.c... Compiling src/osd/windows/winutil.c... Compiling src/osd/windows/winwork.c... Compiling src/osd/windows/winptty.c... make: *** No rule to make target `src/osd/portmedia/pmmidi.inc', needed by `obj/ winui64/osd/windows/winmidi.o'. Stop. make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... Compiling src/osd/windows/winsocket.c...
Then it goes back to my prompt.

What are the exact steps you are taking to compile MAMEUI?
Here's how I do it...
Code:
call D:\MINGW\mingw64-w32\setenv.bat make all -j5 OSD=winui EMULATOR=MAMEUI32.exe if exist MAMEUI32.exe call MakeHelp.bat if not exist MAMEUI32.exe pause
or
Code:
call D:\MINGW\mingw64-w64\setenv.bat make all -j5 OSD=winui EMULATOR=MAMEUI64.exe if exist MAMEUI64.exe call MakeHelp.bat if not exist MAMEUI64.exe pause

Thanks for the reply. The way you do it looks different, I've never seen it done like that. I am doing it the same way I've been compiling since, I don't know version 0.146 when things changed again - just like the directions say:
Code:
set path=E:\mingw\mingw64-w64\bin
make all -j5 OSD=winui PTR64=1
It works for command-line MAME (minus the OSD=winui), why would that make it any different.
The only thing that is different from that was the code I downloaded from http://www.mameui.info/.

I'm surprised it compiled at all. When the tools were updated last, somewhere it was said to run setup-Python.bat once and setup-Qt.bat once if you are using QT for building a frontend, etc. Then, before you compile, you are supposed to run or call setenv.bat. You don't need PTR=1 because you set the path to the 64-bit compiler and this automatically produces a 64-bit binary. I use EMULATOR=MAMEUI64.exe because that is the way I like it named since all of the letters are short for a title.
Try it my way and see if it works.

What is the meaning of the two numbers for "splitters 206,876" in Mameui.ini?
They seem to be offset positions for the column splitters but if you move those splitters inside the gui, on the next startup they appear at random new positions (ie not where you put them last time). I wonder why that is.

umm... read the rest of the thread. I gather (if I'm interpreting the thread correctly) that mameui.ini isn't being updated properly when you exit. If you figure out what you want, you should be able to edit the .ini manually and it should stick...

Ah, some of those were created back when they were initially added to Mame in 2005, laugh. So they didn't appear in the update pack.
It's time to create a new full split archive anyhow; I just uploaded them so the full snap.7z.00x files now contain everything up to yesterday.

umm.... Yes I've read the rest of this thread before.
Opposite to the other problems described here, these numbers behind the "splitter" parameter do *not stick*. They change. Just move your splitters and check your Mameui.ini afterwards.
That's why I asked what they actually mean. Offset (in pixel?) from the left side?

Yes I did run both those setup files. As I said I have had absolutely no trouble building any build U or not prior to 0.153 with my current setup.
To rule things out, I changed my compiling batch file to exactly as you have it set and I got the exact same error and it errored out in the same spot. I can complie command-line just fine on my clean source directory. When I add-in the MAMEUI files and try to compile the UI version I get the error. I am totally at a loss as to what is happening.

Grab a good text editor (like Notepad++) and edit mui_opts.c file in this way:
line 2856 and line 2666 MUST BE COMMENTED OUT:
Code:
//SaveSettingsFile(global, NULL, buffer);
Code:
//global = opts;
Re-compile MAMEUI as usual from scratch and now it will keep in memory and save to disk the "Default Game Options" settings to MAME.INI (and consequentially also to VERTICAL.INI and so on if you use and modify them)
This is a quick workaround until someone else (or maybe myself) will find a better fix. Consider that the "Directories" bug still remains for what are CORE folders (e.g. SAMPLES folder) but not for directories which are related only to the interface (e.g. FLYERS folder)
John IV, feel free to release a full source and another version of MAMEUI 0.153.

@redk9258
John IV has released a quick fix for the latest x64 build of MAMEUI 0.153.1. Just a heads up if you wanted to do the same for the x32 build like you usually do. Antopisa may not have noticed there was a quick fix released either, just like the emulation news websites have not noticed... yet.

I tried this to build MAMEUI32. The result is that if you launch a game, exit, then relaunch, it crashes the GUI. Can someone verify this happens on JohnIV's slip-streamed 64-bit build?

I cannot confirm on MAMEUI64. I haven't compiled a 32-bit version yet so I cannot test but I find strange what you are experiencing. The fix posted here simply disables what could be at this point an useless re-saving of global CORE options which are already saved in PROPERTIES.C files when you modify them under the "Default Game Options" menu voice.

It's still called 0.153 but the date is 13 April, so it's the new version with my fix applied. Tested intensively, it's fine. No crashes.

Well, in case you were wondering it was hard drive corruption. I finally had some free time to investigate and I re-downloaded everything onto another drive and moved all my files over. Then I attempted to compile with all my usual settings, etc. Perfect build the first time. Oh well. Time to get another new extra HD I guess. Thanks.

This is getting off topic and should be on the programming board, but are you sure there is HDD corruption? Did you do a "make clean" before compiling? Did you check the SMART status of the HDD?

How is this off topic. I was having trouble compiling the new build for some reason and redk9258 were discussing why that might be.
I figured it out and thought I'd tell him. My compiling trouble had nothing to do with the build or the source, just my equipment.
No on the "make clean" - I don't even know what that is. I've just been trying to compile the source the same way I've been doing it for forever it seems. Everything compiles fine now.
Thanks.

When you add 'clean' to the make command, it basically deletes the obj folder. I usually just delete the obj folder manually.

and this is a news board not a help board, which is why it's getting off topic. The topic is/was: MAMEUI64 .153 released. Your problem isn't news, but it is appropriate for the programming board.
But yes, you should add "clean" to your build command (or delete your obj folder) each time before you actually build. It prevents a lot of issues such as yours. I'm still not convinced you have a hardware problem. At least not from what you've posted.
Think for a second. If HDD 1 was corrupted and you just copied things to HDD2, do you really think the copied files would 'uncorrupt' themselves when they coppied over? Or that they could even be copied if HDD1 had problems reading? Don't answer here. If you must, start a thread in the PC Hardware board or loony bin (as compiling is no longer the issue).

Thanks red. I never used it because I too always delete my obj folder.

Thanks for assuming you know more than me when it comes to computer hardware. I never said in any post that I copied anything over from that drive to another drive. I also said that my compiles are working now fine now on another drive, so that makes all this extra discussion about it unnecessary.
Thanks anyway.

There appears to still be a problem with custom directories. I get constant missing rom errors with any games located anywhere but the default rom folder, and custom folder locations are wiped when quitting.

Known bug, see here:

Unfortunately it's not so easy to fix as it seems but if I'll find the time a provide a solution soon. Too bad that it I'm the only one which seems interested in keeping MAMEUI alive.....

Ah I see, as UI64 is irrelevant to me I've been glazing over the threads. Thanks for the reply.
I am quite upset to see UI32 depreciated aswell, my PC's are all 32-bit. For what it's worth, while I can't really do anything to help, I do truly appreciate the time and effort you're putting in to this project.
