Just wondering... how exactly are the icons made? Sometimes I think it should be taking longer to roll them out

it's 100% inexcusable if he didn't.
last few releases have already caused a nightmare with people claiming MAME broke X because they're using MAMEUI which has a different romset to MAME, and even if they downloaded a complete set for the release some ROMs are missing and things appear broken.
if a MAME version claims to be a specific version, it should be that specific version, not something else.
it's not even difficult to get it right, you grab the source from the download page, add the UI code, compile it, if somebody is too stupid to get that right 3 times in a row even after it's been spelled out on mamedev.org then I literally have no words.
of course, maybe it's fine this time, I certainly hope so, I haven't actually checked, but yeah, people already seem to be indicating otherwise, could be they're using MAMEUI from some other source tho but if that isn't the case somebody has some explaining to do.

Tested by comparing -listxml output.
The UI version has several dac, laserdisc etc. machines with an unusual sourcefile value of C:/MAMEUI/src/devices/... rather than src/devices/... but no substantial differences.

that is more reassuring, at least in terms of the confusion and support nightmare the previous releases were causing due to romset mismatches.. not sure why you'd end up with the differing xml at all tho.
however it also means some people are clearly getting MAMEUI from another source that still isn't compiling it correctly to match the release branch, and I guess never will, which is a problem. (probably some shady site like EmuCR?)

yeah, the 'official' one is at least, but clearly some of the others are not, and I doubt they ever will be because it's probably the same people adding other hacks etc. who won't even take a second to read the correct release procedure.

Help figure out where people are getting them and I promise you we shall annoy those building them with extreme prejudice.
