If you're using XP, make sure you have your updates set to "download but do not install". Then, when the little yellow thing appears in the tray, click it and choose Custom Install. You can see a list of updates with a description of each. Untick the ones you don't want and install the rest. While it is installing, click the yellow thing again, and you get get a progress bar of what it's doing.

In your case, since you don't know which one is causing the trouble, do one at a time and reboot after each one and test the internet. When you untick updates, it may ask do you want this update to never apply. Keep saying no until you determine which one is the troublesome one.
