You can either go old-school and use a 120VAC fluorescent tube light something like this...

Or go new-school and use a 12VDC cold cathode PC lighting kit like this...

That's a white one, they also have other colors like blue.


Another option might be LED light strips, which I think are 12VDC, but I think you need to be careful that you get something with a good diffuser or you will end up with a series of light spots on the back of your marquee.
