I don't expect movies or TV shows to get security/hacking right any more than they can get a simple military uniform right (which takes all of 30 seconds to find on Google). Not to mention that showing any real hacks on real systems would empower millions of idiots to fuck shit up.

What the author of your link failed to realize was that the landing strip used was too damn small for a commercial airplane. Sure... thrust reversal, brakes, and blown tires could have landed it (assuming that nobody would get hurt when the pilots lost control because they blew all of the damn tires) but then what do you do with the plane afterwards? Not enough runway to take off again, and not enough room to tow it anywhere. Not that they had much time to think about it really...
They also started a sub-plot with that diner lady's son. It appeals to me, ok?
