It just looks like another way for Disney to gob money and put trailers and promotions of their other moneymakers when they release it in "disney dvd" and "disney hi-def thingy". I'll be surprised if there's any kind of depth or thought put into it beyond being flashy fireworky.
Anyway, I always thought that Ep. IV was a free version of Arthur+Merlin trying to bring peace to the land. The shift in Ep. V and VI to Solo is undoubtly due to Solo's charisma and Skywalker's half-boiled character. After THX-1138 I think Lucas hasn't done anything really interesting except Ep. V.
