>Wow it's been that long?! Yeah I remember the big xor thing, I had forgotten bout that.

Yep. There were image/screen snaps of some CPS2 games from Dave's FinalBurn emulator in January 2001 and that is when all the crazy stuff was starting to happen especially on Lev's RetroGames site.

Users begging for FinalBurn or cps2 game roms pestering all the various sites whether on old MAME.net, RG, and affiliated sites, including Jose Q's Emuviews web site or Guru-choc's Arcade Heaven. The insane part was in mid January the author of FinalBurn pulled the plug on CPS2 support and then all hell broke loose. Posters were posting crazy posts on RG forum:

(examples iirc):

Poster #1 "OMG. My younger brother is going to jump off the building now that Finalburn is no longer doing Street Fighter. F' Dave.

Poster #2 "I am pissed off with Finalburn. I will be killing someone soon over no more Capcom game support. Dave will be my first kill."

I know a good portion was sarcasm, but it was just odd seeing users get upset and the blame had to be towards those that were pestering "Dave" during those weeks in January so I wouldn't blame "Dave" leaving. These days if ever deciding to lurk on Free Republic site, some of those threads remind me of the old FinalBurn flaming threads on RG site back in mid January 2001 when Dave pulled plug on CPS2 support just when it was first possible to play CPS2 games in any kind of emulator.

>Ahhh.... Mame history, someone should write a small history book on mame. I think it
>would be a good read. Of course you gotta put in all the good stuff like Razman, guru,
>etc.

* Some history emulation moments I recall for would be authors book writers out there. *

A lot of crazy stuff over the years. My long time favorite on old MAME.net will be the September 2000 flamefest in which PacDude called out Santeri S. (Gridle) regarding adult themed images on old MAME.net whenever Gridle did a daily WIP update.

PacDude complained on the forum about the adult images of game New Fantasia as WIP images that underage children can accidentally view when visiting old MAME.net site back then. Within a few hours, the thread went to over 100 entries iirc and would last nearly two to three weeks with users arguing with each other or calling each other names. PacDude was either bashing Haze, or RB or Guru would jump in and bash PacDude in return. Had to have been best emulation argument thread ever imo. I regret never saving/preserving that thread when I should have.

The other memorable event that stood out was in November 2000, MAMEdev Keith Wilkins had sent in a centralized discrete emulation concept in which it would handle the discrete audio emulation functions and each source file would interact with the cetralized discrete emulation rather than each source file doing its own discrete audio emulation function. The idea was good, but while Keith Wilkins worked on getting Atari Fire Truck discrete audio emulation working in spring 2001, it accidentally broke discrete audio emulation of Asteroids and Keith had left after doing Fire Truck.
Asteroids fans went nuts and complained for three years until Derrick Renaud came to the rescue and fixed Asteroids audio in 2005 iirc.

The best moment during the Asteroids audio issues was when PacDude had bragged that he has an engineering degree (E.E.) in order to fix audio discrete emulation. Aaron Giles replied to PacDude with post: "Good for you there mister double E." LOL That was freaking classic burn imo.

PacDude always complained on old MAME.net forums whenever he thought MAMEdevs were doing things the wrong way back then.

>Oh yeah ant forget arcade at home

MAME.dk was the better place, but it was A@H Tim Eckel (or maybe it was Eckels?)....all I remember was when Smit or twisty would roll out the South Park "Timaaay" character image when bashing Tim back then in 2002 or 2003 after MAME.dk shut down.
