Re: How to cope with the inevitable Trump Presidency?

I tend to disagree with you that Trump will end up being president, but I've been wrong before and I will undoubtedly be wrong again, so who the hell knows.

What I do agree with is the overall point of your post, and I'm kind of curious about that myself.

Most of the people that I've talked to who literally don't want to vote for Trump but are anyway because "it will shake up the system", they seem to have this idea in their heads that Trump will be completely toothless in terms of the global stage.

It seems to me like they're projecting onto their favored candidate the sort of attributes that they had hoped would apply to Obama: That he'd be ineffectual and unable to do anything. They had hoped, and were right, that ultimately his hands would be tied thanks to the checks-and-balances system that's in place, he can't just railroad new laws through the system because it's still down to the people in The House and Congress to approve that legislation.

So to some extent, I agree with them, but at the same time, it's easy to overlook just how much actual power the POTUS has. He's the guy meeting with delegates from other countries, he's the guy engaging in negotiations when it comes to treaties and such. The POTUS is ultimately the face of the country when it comes to negotiations with other countries, and I seriously worry about what Trump would end up bringing to the table in such situations. Hillary is no prize, to say the least, but it seems like she wouldn't let her own hubris run the show, whereas The Donald seems more like me than any real presidential candidate, and that should be pretty fucking alarming.

I don't think that it's going to be the end of the world no matter whether it's Hillary or Trump that ends up winning the election, but it seems to me that Trump is liable to get the USA in more shit than it should really have to deal with. It's shitty that the election has come down to "who will fuck up the USA the least," but that seems to me the way it is.
