What's the best (free) text editor for OSX?

As much as I've seen people around the 'net badmouth it, I'm fond of Notepad++ on Windows. What would you suggest for OSX 10.12 Sierra? Got it running in a VM on my Windows 10 machine just to play around (and snoop around in iPhone jailbreaking tools)

inb4 someone redirects me to Google, I've already done that and saw a few lists. Just looking for opinions from other than the media and random bloggers...

Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!
