FYI: you will still need a monitor that supports HDMI 2.1 and variable refresh rate. so to answer the question in their forum, no it will not make g-sync/free-sync pointless. Also there are new standards for g-sync/free-sync around the corner and they will enable direct HDR rendering. In the mid of this year, first HDR consumer monitors will be revealed, that will also support g-sync/free-sync. So this standard will be again, one step ahead of this HDMI 2.1 .
