Each software list has a specific folder name inside your ROM folder. If you get the PD software-lists torrent you can literally just download it into your ROM folder and everything will work.

You don't *have* to, but we recommend it; the software lists include dumps that have been validated by someone. Additionally, software lists can configure the controller, amount of RAM, video card type, etc, so you can simply choose a game and play without having to know that stuff.

There are separate lists for each system, and often multiple lists for the same system (e.g. cassettes, cartridges, and floppy disks for the Commodore 64).

Single ADFs work fine, within the compatibility limitations of the Amiga driver.
