The football games are called football because they're played on foot, as opposed to being played on horseback a la polo. Rugby (league/union), futsal, "soccer", gridiron, Australian rules football, Gaelic football, "kill the dill with the pill", and the rest of them are all legitimately "football" as they're ball games played on foot, although the wheelchair variants aren't if you want to be technical (e.g. wheelchair rugby, aka "murderball"). "Soccer" is a bastardisation of "association football" anyway. But in any case, it's called whatever the title screen calls it.
