When possible, MAME will assign the default states of DIP SWITCHES to match that which is marked as default in the manual or test mode. If no manual is produced or there are no default present, the Dev adding it will likely choose a setting in which they best feel the game should be played at. Normal isn't always the norm for arcade game difficulty settings.

In Gryzor's case, the DIP listing has EASY as the default clearly listed. Moonwalker's manual does not seem to have a default setting. Whomever added the set initially felt "hard" was the most appropriate given the four (4) options given (easy, normal, hard, hardest). In this case there is no need to change until proof is given of default board state for difficulty.
