My dad old laptop is having a loading issue.

The battery is dead. The old plug wasn't giving good enough power anymore.
The plug been replace. The power is fine after that. Me and my grandma doesn't know why the Windows keep failing to load. It was loading after I replace the plug. Could it be the hard drive is going bad? I don't know anything about laptop computers. I even tried to replace Windows and it keep stopping with a black screen.
