I agree this should be easy to test outside of Maximus.

If I were you I'd delete a couple files and try again. Delete the gunsmoke file in the NVRAM folder if it's there. Also the CFG file in the CFG folder, the file in the Hi folder, and the one in STA if it's there.. Or just rename them and try to run the game.

If you delete them you'll lose any controller customization you've done, and your hi-score, but that's about it.
