Like a stroke of lightening!

Literally... in the survival realm... it was raining, and I looked out over the water thinking... if we don't sleep maybe the lightening will make a charged creeper... and then just then BOoM! Lightening did strike, right in front of me in the water, creating something even better than a charged creeper... a Skeletal horse! Swimming in the water! I knew such things existed... but I'd always assumed it was just some feature you could play with in creative... never in a million years did I imagine I'd see one in survival mode. I ran and got a saddle right quick, and returned, and as I approached the horse trap went off, placing multiple skeleton snipers in the water, but they were all sinking. Even though they had steeds only their heads were above water. At that point I thought I had lost the horse, but after killing the skeletons, the horse was still there, but taking occasional drowning damage. I saddled it and tried to swim it to shore, but it kept bucking me off, as horses do in deep water. By now TFin had arrived on scene, and while he watched over the horse, I ran back to base and got a lead. Unfortunately, the horse wouldn't take the lead, or I was doing it wrong, so I ended up just shoving the horse to the shore, and then riding him from there back to the stables.

The horse had significant damage and probably would have drowned had we not rescued it. I had read that skeletal horses were the fastest horses in minecraft... but this one is a trotter at best, with only 7 hearts of strength. Jumps 3.75 blocks high. I only just now read more about them and learned the riders drop some pretty kewl enchanted loot when they die... we did not swim to the bottom of the water to look for drops, so we likely missed the prizes there.
