Monopoly!
#199885 - 08/25/09 01:52 AM

Hi y'all,

I bought this bezel on ebay quite a few months ago now on a tip from the Dumping Project. This is one of those games that is nigh on impossible to play without the bezel as each property lights up as you "buy" it. This is my best effort in m$paint to show the scans.

I've scanned the bezel, and uploaded the results to my ftp just in case someone wants to pick it up and run with it. Scanned at 300dpi and saved in .tiff format. I got lost in an attempt to autostitch it together with Hugin.

Code:

http://petes-emulation.com/ftp/alien_mame/pics/monopoly_300dpi_tiff.rar

Cheers y'all,

a_m.

Okay, Mr. B, time to get those lamps hooked up while we work on this end.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

This one is just a bit tricky. 98% will be easy to clean... the hard part is the outside border, actually.

Plus, this has been one of those funny ones of "I'll do the artwork when the driver gets updated" and "I'll update the driver when the artwork is done." ;-)

Since it seems JWallace is willing to tackle it...

http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/sho...part=1&vc=1

... I'm back on it.

Any chance you have video somewhere of the game in action?

Don't get excited, it's taken me a day to get as far as working out how the lamp lines are selected, and I still haven't worked out where the lamp information is actually being written.

It's a weird system - rather than writing to the transistors directly like MPU4, there's a dedicated RAM block used, with the accesses strictly controlled by programmable timers.

Well, I've found a block of writes that is suspiciously the right size for this, that never gets read by the CPU. Hooking that up gives a pattern that sort of makes sense, but I can't really do any more at this end.

Thanks for looking d00d.

Not promising then

Sorry matey, not got one. I'll keep an eye out though.

Anything in particular you wanted clearing up that I might remember?

Cheers,

Ralph.

Well, I've made a couple of guesses, and sent some possible drivers to Mr. Do. I'm not confident, but once the artwork is done, it should be possible to see what's wrong, if anything - the lamp numbers might be jumbled up, since there doesn't seem to be an obvious link.

What I really should do is add a slot machine game to the driver, something I can compare with real hardware, and then it'd be obvious.

I'm actually gonna mock up a temp artwork file, just to see that the lamps work, and to figure out which is which... give me til Wednesday, though (work, mother's day, etc.)

Fine, I'll be away for a bit though, so if none of my guesses are right, it might pose problems.

Well... I can't seem to get the numbering on the lamps right.

The attached uses the labeling from the personality pack (minus 1, as you said the lamps start with 0 instead of 1).

Maybe you'll see something I'm not...

I'm currently making some assumptions about how the lamps are numbered - looks like they're wrong.

At least with this demo art I can start some trial and error and get back to you.

It turns out that JPM also start their lamp numbers at 0, so unfortunately that makes a difference. What also makes a difference is that, despite the 68k, the address accesses are actually 8 bit rather than 16, so half the lamp data was being thrown away. For my own sanity I've used a switch statement so I can do rapid testing, but it's a bit ungainly.

Try this driver, unfortunately the lamp numbers in the lay do need 1 adding to them again I think.

Updated artwork file. So far, I played a few games, and all the lights are lining up correctly now. (Just a bit harder for me, as a lot of the trivia is Euro based )

Your temp ban has been repealed

Other cool thing... the attached artwork needs just a few more adjustments, and it can be a built-in LAY file for MAME.

Great to hear this works - I couldn't have worked out the problem without being able to see the lights change in the test mode.

It's a fairly clever system they've worked out, but apparently a real PITA when out in the field - and for IMPACT, it looks like they reworked it so that it doesn't use a timer.

Right, see you all next time when you get a jpmimpct.c bezel
