case inside of another case?

Hello everyone,
A bartop-style mame will be built by me and my dad. I do however have a question, can you just put the parts inside a wooden arcade cabinet, or does there have to be some metal shielding around it? My dad thinks its a good idea to put the whole pc case inside of the cab because he thinks there has to be metal around the components because otherwise signals travelling past will interfere with the components, creating distorted images and sounds. Is that true?

what your dad means is a Faraday Cage.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage
And it's good practice, but I'm not quite sure if it's necessary.
(it's always a good idea to get as much space between CPU-Board and monitors as possible, depending on cables used)

Yes, that's a good idea. If you're using a CRT monitor it's pretty much essential. But even if you aren't, there's a good chance a bare computer board could mess up nearby TV/radio/wifi and make your neighbors (or any non-gamers in your house) angry

Is it really that big a deal yeah? huh
My experiences with shielding are pretty much limited to audio, so I have no idea what actual effect it would have on monitors

Maybe not needed for shielding but possibly for cooling.
Whilst trying to track down what could have been a temperature related fault, I removed the side panel from a computer. Rather than CPU & GPU temperatures dropping, they increased. No fans or even vents on the side panel.
