Permission denied means you have the file open already. Maybe you started an older hbmame and forgot to close it. Whatever it is, it's a local issue, a problem on your pc.

Hey Robbbert, can you stop Messing around in the Land of Oz for a moment and see if you can fix this HBMAMEUI bug that doesn't save/keep a user's modified settings.

I thought you had fixed this when looking at the changelog.

To keep my settings, I have to manually configure the INI files and then make them Read-Only files. This is unacceptable. You have 20 seconds to comply...

Works for me...

Which settings?

(It's hard to know if you are being serious).

I am serious about the bug, but just joking with the 'messing around, unacceptable, and 20 sec to comply thing'.

I am using HBMAMEUI 32-bit on a Windows XP 32-bit operating system:

  • I place HBMAMEUI.exe in a fresh folder. It's the only file in the new folder.
  • I load HBMAMUI.
  • I go to DEFAULT GAME OPTIONS.
  • I deselect ENFORCE ASPECT RATIO.
  • I select ENABLE CHEATS.
  • I select SKIP GAME INFO.
  • I slide PAUSE BRIGHTNESS to 1.0.
  • I select ENABLE SOUND INPUT.
  • I select ENABLE MOUSE INPUT.
  • Of course I clicked APPLY after modifying each setting.
  • I then click OK.
  • Then I go back into DEFAULT GAME OPTIONS and everything I had modified goes back to their default setting.

And why is SOUND INPUT's default setting not enabled? For some reason, you have it disabled.

Looks like NONE of my fixes for MAMEUI I recently posted here at MAMEWorld have been applied to HBMAMEUI source.... This is really sad.

I'm guessing you mean SOUND OUTPUT..

The changelog only said that the saving of directories was fixed, and that does work.

However I was unaware of the other settings, since I set all of mine up ages ago.
I can verify they aren't being saved. Thanks for the report, and I'll look at it in time for the next release.

I've fixed the problem. For whatever reason, whenever you accessed the directory settings, the interface settings, or the default game settings, there was code to set the game options all back to default. It's surprising nobody noticed this earlier. The same problem existed in MESSUI and has also been fixed.

The next thing I noticed is if you change the default game settings, then looked at the directory paths, the ones controlled by HBMAME.ini show the default instead of what's in the ini. This turned out to be a bug in MAME's core, which I haven't been able to fix. So the recommendation is, (from the next release), when you change the default game settings, you should immediately quit HBMAMEUI, then restart it.

Is there going to be a release of HBMAME 0.154 or will there not be a release until the next MAME 0.155 gets released?

I've been working on pinball machines (in case you hadn't noticed), not on HBMAME. So, I don't know when the next release will be.

On a side note, MONACO.C driver have to be updated to latest samples source code. I already done the step by myself for MAMEUIFX though.
