About 40,000 files & more than 2 GB for Snap/Titles 0.158 Update???

The extracted pS_snap_upd_158.zip package has almost a whopping 19,000 files whose disk space consumes more than 1 GB. I don't understand why this is? Why so many files and hence large file size.
The same goes for pS_titles_upd_158.zip.
So that's almost 40,000 files combined and more than 2 GB for those two updates. What's up with that?

It was long ago that I was going to replace the generic images (Devices, Mechanicals and Screenless) with something more "modern", and I finally found the time to do it...
The packages are bulky, but this operation will not be repeated in future.
I apologize, but I had no other options (if you use 7zip the footprint is much smaller).
