So if I upgrade to a 1440p monitor will the games look worse ?

Well "worse" is not quite the word I wanted to use. I know that originally most games in mame were made with a lower resolution standard CRT monitor and that's fine. Playing them on my 1080p 27" is fine but I'm thinking about upgrading to a 1440p 27". I'm upgrading because I find the pixels are too big and PPI to low for 1080p @ 27" and I play a lot of PC games but I do play mame games somewhat often.
Was just wondering if the games will look the same as before like the 1080p I currently have or will the high resolution of 1440p make the games look even more rough looking ? Thanks

How can you tell the difference between 1080p and 1440p? Do you have better than 20/20 vision? You sit too close to the screen?

your question is kind of odd, unless you have real bad eyesight among PC gamers you can easily tell the difference between the two resolutions. But further you sit from the monitor it is more difficult to tell the difference yes that is true. I sit currently arms length about 2 feet from my monitor which is a 27 inch 1080p, and I can definitely tell a difference if you go to Micro Center and you look at the different monitors they have up for display you'll see what I'm talking about. I find that the text and the pixels just look bad at 27 1080p such a low PPI. 24" is the highest 1080p should go for PC monitors my opinion.
Anyway back to my original question.

There are people out there who have better eyesight than you. Seriously, that's the only way to put it. You might not be able to see the difference, but you're acting like nobody else can see the difference, either, and that's just not the case. The BBC did a study 10 years ago and found that 20% of participants could distinguish between 1080p and 4k at 55 inches away, to a statistically valid degree.
You're the one who came trundling along, acting like MKFAN seeing better than you was some kind of personal affront, demanding to know how it is that he can distinguish between 1080p and 1440p. Now you know.

I do have bad eye sight. Without my glasses, one eye is 20/400 and the other is 20/300. The optometrist said I'm blind as a bat.

Bruh, chill out. You went out of your way to try to act like MKFAN was just bullshitting you that he could see better than you can, yet here in this thread you admit that your eyesight is below average. Why would you be so surprised that someone with normal or above-average vision could be posting here on MAMEWorld? It just doesn't make sense. You seem bitter towards people with average-or-better eyesight, and I think that's something that you have to deal with yourself, and not take it out on other people by casting doubt on their own sight.

And here's why. You're not initially running at native res, but something much higher. Going even higher ain't gonna change it. Not even if you're using HLSL, etc. Now, what will change is if your monitor size increases. Everything will get bigger, including the scanline effects, meaning the square-ness of the pixels will be more apparent, regardless. BUT, you can change the effects settings to accommodate, so.......
