Video Snaps mp4 encoding
#344090 - 08/16/15 03:21 PM

I'm now using Windows 10. When trying to view the VideoSnaps in the built-in Windows 10 movie viewer, I only hear sound and can't see the video.

It appears that the VideoSnaps use Planar 4:4:4 YUV encoding. Videos that are in Planer 4:2:0 YUV work with the Windows 10 movie viewer.

Is there anyway that you could output the mp4 files using a different codec?

Have you tried using VLC, which should be fully compatible with Window 10?

Yes, VLC shows the videos in Windows 10. I was hoping for default Windows 10 video player support, but VLC is certainly a workaround.

Another reason for the suggestion is that QMC2 doesn't play the VideoSnaps in Windows 10 without the proper Codec set. When I installed the Shark standard codecs, QMC2 shows the VideoSnapS videos, but they are upside down and backwards!

Thanks for all that you do in order to create all of the MAME support files!

You should be able to convert them to standard x264 using ffmpeg...

http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/

I think this command should do the job...

Code:

ffmpeg -i "input.mp4" -vcodec libx264 -acodec copy "output.mp4"

EDIT: If that doesn't work, try this...

Code:

ffmpeg -i "input.mp4" -vcodec libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -acodec copy "output.mp4"

According to the ffmpeg H.264 docs...

Quote:

You may need to use -pix_fmt yuv420p for your output to work in QuickTime and most other players. These players only supports the YUV planar color space with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling for H.264 video. Otherwise, depending on your source, ffmpeg may output to a pixel format that may be incompatible with these players.

I appreciate the massive undertaking that collecting all this stuff has been for you, but the original poster is correct, this isn't a solution.

Here's the thing....

If a video doesn't play properly in WMP then that means any front-end that uses either direct show or a WMP plugin to play videos isn't going to be able to use the videos.

I hope you don't take this reply the wrong way, I'm just trying to be to the point.
