The display of dat files information (history.dat, mameinfo.dat, etc) was rewritten in MAMEUI/MESSUI/ARCADE 0.188 (and for the next version of HBMAMEUI). Basically, the freeform text that gets displayed should now be made the same format as HISTORY.DAT, that is, you write it the way you want it displayed. Don't include extra blank lines!!
If you include all those extra empty lines, they will add extra spacing on the display panel. Just write it out exactly the way you want it to be shown. See History.dat for the correct way.
Keycodes: (for example: $info=nes )
The existing keycode formats are ok, however duplicate keys are not allowed. If they exist, only the last one is used, and the others ignored.
Next thing, some DAT files have blank lines between $end and the next $info... you can remove those blank lines.
Doing these things will result in smaller and faster files.
