Pics of mame running on CRT tv?
09/17/14 04:39 PM

Hi

I am considering buying an old CRT tv to make games look like I remember them.

This may sound like a stupid question but can anyone tell me if emulated games will look authentic on a CRT tv without any HLSL enhancements etc? I know that just using a CRT tv makes the screen authentic but my question is about how it will look when output from my pc which has no option to match the original resolutions of arcade games (without additional software). 640x480 is the lowest I can choose.

Will any SD CRT be able to display a 640x480 image through a VGA to svideo adapter or do I need to get that software that allows you to output lower resolutions? Do I need a hi scan model instead?

Would anyone mind uploading a screenshot to show me how, Street Fighter 2, for example, looks when played on a CRT tv through mame?

What I want to know is if I will get better results than I do with an HLSL mame on an lcd. HLSL makes games look a lot better but they still don't look like the real thing to me but it could be that I don't know how to use it properly...

More recently, I have been using an old 4:3 LCD projector instead of my 16:10 monitor and just using a lower resolution device, which is 4:3 without scaling, makes a big difference but no matter what options I select, games have jaggies that were not visible on a CRT.
