My thanks to Aaron for doing the analog audio work with Gremlin's Frogs.

While cleaning/deleting old messages, I copied a few of them here [already deleted in old message] in case any fans of Gremlin's Frogs want to read excerpts of the messages.

The zip sound effect, which was possible with discrete code, was done back in 2004.
A lot of the other sound effects of Frogs maybe not possible or feasible back then in 2004 with previous discrete audio code setup, but my thanks to Derrick for looking over schematics then and iirc the external audio samples contribution came from a Frogs cab owner (BS Ruggieri) back in 2004 or maybe it was 2005.

In the old messages, I had asked about the extended audio play of the croak sound effect when the frog image captures the dragonfly in which Derrick replies with answer.

I was curious myself and that is why I asked the question to Derrick back in 2004.
Maybe the extended play of the sound effect might be noted in source files.

The remaining things with Frogs that would make it complete is bezel artwork and control panel artwork. Other than those items, Frogs is pretty well set.

Do you have the parts list for Frogs? I did not think I would need it, but I may be able to figure out the jump sound with it. The sound board PCB layout is quite easy to read, so I may be able to reverse engineer it into a schematic. It is a double sided board with only 1 side shown, but I am hoping for the best. If I did this and told you what resistors/cap/etc values I need, do you have that info available? eg. R76 & R79.

Also is there a wiring diagram showing how pins 55-62 of the CPU board go to pins 1-8 of the sound board. I can figure it out through emulation, but it would be a lot easier if you had this info. If you do, just let me know. eg 55->2, etc.

As for emulating it, this is a hard one, even though it looks simple. Plus it needs filter code, which is a long way off. The transistors and FETs make it hard to do. They do not fit easily into the circuit block method I am doing. If they are emulated seperately things will slow down to a stop.

But now that I have it, it will be always on my mind on how to do it acurately.

As for Clean sweep, It looks like it uses ROMs and serial ROMs that would be needed to dump.

The timing/length of the sounds is done by the cpu. It just keeps retriggering the effect to extend it.

Could you look at the wiring diagram and tell me how pins 55-62 of the game board are connected to pins 1-8 of the sound board?

I just finished the DISCRETE_555_CC module adding all 8 types and allowing the cap voltage to be output. This will work for the tongue now.

But I still have some more modules to work on first, and I have to modify the DISCRETE_555_ASTABL to work in the future with Pleades. And then modify all code that currently uses it. The jump uses this also, so it should be changed before I add it to other drivers.

later,
D.

yep, the text layout was unreadable.

Let me try to explain what I need using Depthcharge as an example.

Notice the wire labled VIO meaning Violet goes from pin 54 of the Video Logic board to the corresponding VIO Pin 10 on the Sound Board.

BLU Video Logic pin 53 goes to BLU Sound Board pin 9, etc. all the way to BRN Video Logic pin 45 goes to BRN Sound board pin 1.

Can you state it like that looking at the Frogs wiring? Stating all wire between 55-62 of the video logic and their corresponing hookups on pins 1-8 of the sound board. It will be normal if not all connections are used.
