I’m convinced Mario is a hobo.
He wakes up everyday in the same clothes, runs around in sewers, and collects coins for a living.
At the end of the day, he uses the coins to buy mushrooms

Thats not an analogue control its showing joystick/gamepad input. The buttons being pressed are digital input. If the buttons are showing as permanently on in the Windows CP config then its not mame and likely an issue with the Gamepad or gamepad drivers.

You need to enable mouse control in the Mame ini (or default game options in MameUI) to use a mouse or similar analogue control as a trackball.

Also, if your trackball is registering constant movement... do you have a light gun? Check those settings, that happened to me once, and that was the fix.

If your buttons read always on, make sure you wired them correctly, there is a post to wire a button to always unless unless pressed, as opposed to always off unless pressed.

If you use ultimarc's ipac etc, when it powers on, the led will blink a specific number of times, which can be looked up telling you exactly where your wiring problem is.

might be bad hardware. it seems that these lights should not be lit up.
