Ive just found this place and it looks good so thought I would register as im going to have some questions
Ive allways been an arcade lover, spent my youth down there and have always wanted my own arcade machine. Well now im a Dad my lad (11) wants an arcade machine for Christmas in his room and im more than up for the idea!!
Ive used mame before on my PC ages ago and it was allways good but needs to be in a dedicated cabinet, what do you guys think the to various cab kits for sale on ebay are they worth buying or if anyone has anything for sale let me know. Im watching a couple of Jamma machines on Ebay with the idea to convert them but my lads room is upstairs so im not sure if its going to be possible to drag a full built machine up stairs.. any idea?
Anyway thats enough for a first post

If you're a DIY kind of guy, head to www.byoac.com.
Buying pre-made is frowned upon. Google is your friend.

It's not so much that pre-made cabinets that is frowned upon. Some people don't have the skill or the means to produce one.
It's buying a pre-made with MAME and ROMs included that is not cool.

You need to decide what you want. You can do JAMMA, arcade monitor, etc. Some hardware is required to interface PC to the monitor (arcadeVGA does the job). You can use a PC Monitor (easier setup) but some purists are against the look. Comes down to preference, really.
BYOAC forums are full of helpful people that can point you in the right direction.
