MAMEUI32 ever causes a BSOD in Direct3D Version 9 mode with HLSL turned off
#279716 - 03/20/12 11:29 AM

I'm pissed off because when I running a ROM in MAMEUI32 on Direct3D Version 9 mode with HLSL turned off in Default Game Options my Windows XP ever crashes with a BSOD and after this when the system restarts the above diagnosis is coming:

But in these PC DON'T have any Roxio program, and I removed all signs of these piece of junk from here.

Before the introduce of HLSL in MAMEUI32 it's ever running perfectly here without any trouble.

Since the HLSL introduce on MAMEUI32 it's only running in these in Direct3D 9 mode with HLSL turned on, but the HLSL causes annoying lags here.

And I don't likes plays in Direct3D Version 8, GDI (who causes lags here too) and DirectDraw modes, and I hate uses onboard Video Cards.

In these PC the MAMEUI32 version is 0.145u3, and in my 16 GB pendrive the version is 0.144u2.

PC configuration:
Athlon XP +2400
2 GB RAM
GeForce 6200 Video and Graphics card (the driver version is 296.10)
Power supply with real 500 W
ENM232-8 VIA Sound Card
HDD IDE 80 GB for system and other with 160 GB for the remaining
Windows XP SP2 32 Bits

Haves any solution for this trouble? Or I have to download any previous version before the HLSL's introduce?

There must be some remnant of 'PX Engine' on your computer, otherwise it wouldn't be talking about it.

No, I'm looked all around these PC searching for it, and I'm certain for the total remove of these shit. The PX Engine is coming with certain programas like Winamp too.

And it's an fake alert, because before of these diagnosis an other diagnosis is coming who says about troubles on the video driver is ever coming, but unfortunately I'd don't take a print of these diagnosis.

However the video card is in perfect state and all emulators and games here works perfectly, so it's inlogical.

Try the command line version of MAME. Try changing video drivers.

The drivers? To check they're not corrupted.

To see if it is a MAME or MAMEUI problem or both.

try MAMEUIFX version 0.145:
http://mame32fx.altervista.org/download.htm

also, run the windows MSCONFIG program and examine both the 'services' and 'startup' tabs to see if anything related to 'px' and 'roxio' are present. if they are, disable/delete them.

also, using normal windows search, search entire computer for the term 'px' and delete all results which are found

perhaps also, using normal windows search, search entire computer for the term 'roxio' and delete all results which are found

finally, run this below:
Free Window Registry Repair 2.6
http://www.regsofts.com/download/RegpairSetup.exe
(do a full scan of your computer and fix all the found errors)

if still no success, run this:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35
....and also consider complete uninstall and reinstall (latest version) of your video drivers

There's a known issue with newer Nvidia drivers and certain older Nvidia cards that causes MAME to crash. I really doubt there's any way that MAME could be doing something to crash the computer, so all signs point to a bug in the latest Nvidia video drivers. Someone should probably file a bug report over on the Nvidia site.

The only known solution is to install older drivers.

I still use Windows Xp in dual boot 'cause all Nvidia driver are buggy in Windows Seven. Tv out (using component cables) and 15Hz are all relegated to Windows Xp.

The original poster *is* using Windows XP. SP2 for god-knows-what reason.

But, yes, Windows 7 is all kinds of messed up when it comes to 15KHz monitors. Personally, I use Windows XP 64-bit edition for my arcade monitor.

This answers all questions, now waiting for a position from the MAMEUI developers about this.

There aren't any developers... it's on maintenance. If it works on John IV's computer,
and on my computer, then it's working. There's no way anyone will be coding for buggy
hardware drivers.

Yeah, I know, I was just ranting... I'm also on Windows XP 64-bit to drive my arcade monitor, it's a shame Microsoft isn't supporting it anymore, it's the best OS available in my opinion.

Assuming that's actually your problem, roll back your drivers and it'll work fine. Would be nice if someone who is seeing this happening would actually formally report it to Nvidia to get fixed, too.

What you should do:

-backup your files;
-inset Windows cd;
-reset the PC;
-format your hd and reinstall the OS.

EDIT:
Don't forget to setup the bios to boot from the cd.

Although what you suggest is rather extreme, in the OPs case I would probably suggest the same or building a newer system and upgrading to X64 O/S

If the above is not possible then drop $100 on a GTX 460 and call it a day. 500 W will handle it just fine.

Quitting MAMEUI is a good start as well.

I'm unsure why you can't just disable the HLSL instead of rolling back MAME before it was introduced

He is saying that the crash happens with HLSL disabled... which most certainly means his problem has nothing to do with HLSL.

EDIT:
If I would guess, he was probably watching some .exe manga/hentai porn videos (at least it's what his avatar suggests) and got some computer DST from it. But it wouldn't be polite from my part to guess this kind of things... so I won't.

The part where it's popping up prompts related to software he insists isn't installed seems to point to either a virus or a badly decayed Windows install. Either way, a wipe-and-reinstall would probably work wonders.

The screenshot you have attached looks nothing like XP, it looks more like the troubleshooter in Vista/7.
The feedback ("was this information helpful - yes, no, somewhat") stuff doesn't exist on XP, it was introduced with Vista AFAIK.

If you are seeing that on Windows XP then your PC has a virus, and it's probably trying to trick you by having you to click on stuff in that dialog. This also explains why it's talking about software that you don't even have installed.

I'm trying to help you, I'm not saying that you're lying..!

I'm saying that the virus is making that dialog box appear, it's a fake dialog box.

Even the virus writers of the world believe XP is an obsolete OS, and therefore the virus is designed to show a fake dialog boxes from Vista and 7, not Windows XP.
