caius dumped 1943 Mark II, a USA version of 1943 Kai that is so rare many hardcore Capcom fans have never even heard of it.

Yeah seems i didn't read smitdogg's original post as fully as i should have i somehow
had it in my head it was a updated USA version of the 1943 rather than a new 1943 Kai
for the U.S market silly me.

Just to point out that I'm not behind the purchase of this board.I have only received it from the owner who is a guy used to send me boards for repair.
Anyway, this has few importance compared to this great achievement!

my best guess is it's a version Romstar tweaked a bit, since they usually worked with Capcom for US releases, and we saw things like the Gunsmoke version with different level orders etc.
but it's definitely based on 1943, not Kai.

In what way is it not based on Kai? The airplane sprites appear to be from Kai at least.

Looking at the Rom load table there's some unique ones just for this version apart from that it seems to be a mishmash of 1943 and 1943 Kai for Gfx and Proms and it's using the the same sound Rom as Kai so maybe we can say it's based on both 1943 and Kai..??

there is discussion on the DU about it, this doesn't have the night/day change, and the carrier at the start of the level is still the one from 1943.
it does however have some Kai sprites, and seems to require the Kai PROMs.
so it sits somewhere between them...
