I want to run Mame off a ext-hdd that is plugged to my router ?

I was thinking about getting one of those 4TB portable ext hdd and plugging it to the routers USB 3.0. I've never done this and wondering if there are any cons. Theres only one PC and it would be used only by me.

My question is I wanted to put emulators like Mame on it. Seeing how it's going to work through the Wi-Fi can I potentially see any lag or games just not running as fast or taking longer to load as compared if they were like right on my C: drive ?

Also I'll have 2-3 TB's worth of zip and rar files, could these potentially have more of a chance of corrupted
over time because I'll be replacing files and updating stuff overtime using a WIFI connections ? I'm using a 5ghz connection to my PC with 90% signal strength. Could you please tell me of cons I'm not seeing before I drop money/time on this project, Thanks

Well nevermind it won't work. According to my routers manual file size limit says 8GB, I'm like really give me a break.

Those drives are so cheap anymore I would just go ahead & try it. The worst that can happen is that you end up with a cheap backup drive.
The 8gb file max size may be inaccurate due to older OS's possibly being used or could be an actual constraint from the amount of memory in the router(There could be settings you can change or even just a bios update to fix some of that too).
If you're the only 1 using it then you won't be fighting for bandwidth, so you can see how much they fudged their speed #'s on the box compared to actual use...
Just remember that you'll be using a router USB port as a NAS & that's not it's primary purpose. If you're that concerned with the speed & file & drive sizes, go get an actual NAS. You can get a cheap 1 to do what you want and not have to worry about it.
Hope this helped a bit...
& Good Luck!

Pessimist: Oh, this can't get any worse!
Optimist: Yes, it can!
