I hope that:

a) Konami's "Tobe! Polystars!" is finally emulated
b) The decapping project gets back on track so that many soundless Toaplan games will have their music and SFX properly emulated..
c) G-Darius' music completely emulated.

Would still love to see Crazy Otto, as well as a yet undumped Pac-Man bootleg called Maze-Man. There are two known instances floating around on the net. One is a cocktail table and the other is an upright. See Ken Uston's book 'Mastering Pac-Man' for more info. There is a hack in HBMame, but the author never saw the original game, and did the best he could from the description in the book.

It's already pretty much the greatest software ever conceived. I suppose if it could give me sex, cook my meals, and pick the Super Bowl winner, that would be really cool.

Malware STDs are horrible, so I'm not sure you'd want to be intimate with MAME, though.

Yeah, I got one:

No more duplicate filenames with different checksums when merging games in zip files (ex. punchout & spnchout, and I think one of the Raiden games, and others). I had to alter the rom names to keep this from happening.

Side note:

A complete rewritten driver for the Caveman pinball game. The audio needs to be pitched down. I'm dying to track down an original so I can make my point.

What do I *expect* to see, or what would I *like* to see? new [Re: jasd]
#335154 - 12/15/14 11:35 AM

The question doesn't quite work as written - I have no expectations for MAME, other than that existing bugs will be fixed, emulation of non- and somewhat-working games improved, and new games added. Pretty much the same thing that's been happening since 1997, really

As for what I want to see: more bronze- and golden-age games added, especially prototypes and limited-release games. Improvements to the pinball titles and discrete emulation. Oh, and support for the East German version of Phoenix

- Gals panic II
- Donggul Donggul Haerong (am waiting for simulation of protection PIC, or dump of it - why is not dumped ?)
- Photo Y2K 2
- PGM2.c driver (is there any driver or just folder to drop roms in ?)
- Marble Madness 2: Marble Man (rom dump)
- Spellsinger (rom dump)
- Last Hope (rom dump)
- Parasol Stars (to be dumped/added in MAME - Do we have official Taito statement that this game was or was not released at arcades ?)
- Cyber Sterra (to be added in MAME - What happened ?)

For MAME just Model 2 emulation, anything else is a bonus.

In MESS I'd like to see Saturn get some love.

There might be more dumps next year but I would not expect emulation.

Actually, yeah we do.

For our part, MAMEDEV killed the "Parasol Stars Arcade" rumor many years ago (as far as our side of things goes) by contacting former Taito Japan employees directly through our Japanese contacts in the scene. They confirmed it only ever existed as a PC Engine game (and then ported to other platforms).

I am pretty sure we've conclusively decided that the most it ever was that people would have seen was a hacked TG16 in a cabinet as well.

I suppose those employees could always be wrong...

I'm thrilled just to see any MAME/MESS development.

However, I'll add my wish list:
on MAME side:
I'd love to see all remaining laserdisk dumped to .chd (including Space Ace and Dragon's Lair).
I know there will probably be a better format one day, but for now I'd love to see those
preserved (even if I know it won't happen).

on MESS side:
I'd like there was a better documentation.
The project has become huge and it lacks even basic information (what's the status of a
particular driver, for example) that a noob like me would find very useful.
Or, if it's there, it is well hidden

MAME:

- St. Dragon start screen scrolling bug fixed
- Tokio MCU properly emulated, so it would become fully playable
- A bootleg version of Karate Champ where the little girl says nasty things to the player after he wins a fight.

MESS:

- Improved emulation of the PC drivers, including new machine specs along the way if possible.

These are my 2015 predictions.

MooglyGuy will form an 80's synth band.

etabeta will slot everything.

R.Belmont will emulate all the remaining weird peripherals ever made for the Apple II.

Haze will keep doing the same stuff (adding support for clones, being passionate about emulating games that pretty much no one will ever want to play, writing blogs about major releases, being way too patient with people who have unreasonable and stupid requests, pushing for making UME the default).

OG will keep kicking major ass, emulating PCI and other incredible stuff.

Kale and Carl will make more Sharp X68k progress. Kale will make SEGA Saturn improvements.

AWJ will rewrite some major part of MAME/MESS, making it much better and intuitive but causing some short term chaos.

Aaron Giles will make a surprise rewrite, replacing well-known code with Achocode: IN_AD_2015(); WAR(); WAS(); BEGINNING();

Traso will get banned again.

And Javier Donoso will get banned from more forums for harassing everyone with complaints and requests for PSX dithering, i430FX chipset support, the IBM Model M keyboard, and emulating the CD-ROM eject button.

I got an idea of how to deal with Javier Danoso:

redirect all his posts to /dev/null ...

I post occasionally on the bannister MESS forum when I find what might be a bug, but I mostly just lurk. Following MAME/MESS development is a fun distraction while I'm at work.

Now that I reread my 2015 predictions, I made a huge mistake by omitting that Vas Crabb will continue Vas Crabbin' it up! Maybe that's too obvious!

Yeah, those screens that come up informing you of the status with messages like "THIS SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK" and "The emulation of this system is not 100% accurate" are pretty opaque. What could they possibly mean?

pretty much all games I wanted to be emulated are already in mame so..... nothing ?

ok maybe these two:

Gamshara: because I like Cabal and Blood Bros a lot.

Akai Katana: because I like Progear a lot and it's basically the sequel.

If I remember correctly, Akai Katana is still within Mame's 3-year limit or it was still in the current console cycle, or something like that.

The Mamedevs can elaborate on that one further, but it had something to do with one of the above conditions.

---

Also, does anyone know the emulation status for the game "Tatakae! Big Fighter?" Is it still preliminary? Does it have some kind of protection on it?

The screens are just fine, I'd like (wasn't even a request, just an observation inside a 'wish' thread)
to be able to read what the status of a certain system is *outside* the program, i.e. in some
readme.txt/status.txt or on the MESS website.

I was talking about documentation after all.
There are people out there (me for example) who are not programmers and looking at the source
code means zip to me

This: http://www.mess.org/mess/driver_status isn't showing almost anything at all, I'd
love to see a (more or less) detailed list (video/audio/known problems...)

For example I might be curious to know what is the status of the PSX emulation, but I don't have
an original Playstation game with me nor I want to download one.

Back in the day the MESS website/wiki had tons of that content in the wiki because it maintained messinfo.dat and another file I can't remember the name of. This was all gutted when the server crashed without decent backups in 2012 (we thought about restoring it but it was too much manual labor), and maintenance of these files moved to other sites.

I've been using wordpad for text files, especially long mother fuckers like occurring in MAME, since very soon after starting to look at inis and such. (ve-ri sooon, right?)

Although, I'd forgotten about Mawler, and it has recent action.

Yeah, and then do a hack of one of the 80s adult games, like stripper I think, say, adding force-feedback to it, so when you clear a screen, you can get an electro-blow or -stuffing, depending on what hardware you want to attach and all. Both would be, like, sublime.

QMC2 says hi. Windows/Linux/BSD/Mac all supported, and 100% of MAME and MESS features supported (no other way to run MAME/MESS can claim that except the command line).

Pretty sure they meant internal UI, not a frontend.

Besides, there's no DOS port.

Exact. Something like MEWUI for example. I already have my GUI for Windows so I don't need QMC2 or another frontend. About MESS, I use it only for C64 emulation just for curiosity sometimes... but it's still slow and buggish for the video part (raster effects, sprites on side borders, etc. etc.)

With a Prophet 12 from Dave Smith Instruments, I'm already rocking better hardware than what most of them had back in the day. So.

That could probably help solve some of the driver's many problems.

Expect nothing...Hoping for... new [Re: jasd]
#335379 - 12/22/14 11:16 PM

MAME:
-mario - Improved/fixed sound; especially the walk (filtering).

MESS:
-a7800 - Lightgun and Paddle controller support.

-nes - Video and Audio improvements/fixes.

-vectrex - Fixes/improvements and high resolution scans of the overlays would be awesome.

-c64 - Improvements to Joyport 2 emulation; unfortunately, a significant number of games are unplayable. There is no response/mapping issues for several titles regarding joyport 2.

-a5200 - Overall emulation improvement; some 'basic' games (I.E. Ms. Pac-Man) still have issues.

-coleco - MegaCart support (I.E. Pac-Man Collection) and Super Game Module support

-"All" - Implementation of calculated palettes for systems lacking them; separation of NTSC and PAL palettes for those systems that produce colors based upon one region only or incorrectly sharing the same values; additional proper controls (Tint/Hue dial support) for NTSC systems.

-YIQ emulation improvements; including fix for 'rainbow band of colors'.

I hope to continue working within my means to improve the Mame project.

I also hope to see progress in 2015 on the great work of couriersud with discrete electronics.

Same here...especially if something like Ramtek's Clean Sweep emulation can be ported from DICE over to MAME since MAME's artwork/rendering currently has more capabilities and can support backlit lamps. A Clean Sweep bezel is available for eventual bezel support once the bezel piece is scanned and cleaned up. The bezel is on to-do list for 2015.

Seeing DICE emulate Clean Sweep and Atari Highway this year was outstanding along with Kee Games Crossfire also being emulated since Crossfire, up until a couple years ago, was basically nothing more than a game name of some unknown game listed on various info web sites.

For 2015,

1. maybe more PEPlus entries for PE Plus system being supported.
2. Kee Games Quiz Show (now that 8-track question tapes are accounted for).
3. any type of discrete update including adding more roms as documentation placement files if need be from non-cpu pcbs and pcbs with roms not yet dumped get dumped.

4. any unique games like Arcadia's Rockford or some early 1980s Taito video games.

5. handheld games on MESS side....especially Mattel Electronics handheld games and MB Microvision being updated to eventually be in working state.

6. And on DICE side...maybe Digital Games Model 474 pong clone...the one player versus machine opponent is the ultimate pong challenge imo.

IŽd like to see Seibu Cup finally emulated,I think it is the only game that is still unemulated from my favourite game list(the other one I wanted was Cool Riders)

And if we can dream...IŽd love to see all the Bemani games emulated with their music and being 100% playable...hoping is free

Didn't all that work on Raiden 2's driver and its protection make that game playable already?

Edit: After trying Seibu Cup soccer in Mame 1.56, Mame says the game does not work.

MESS wishes:
- Multitap support for Megadrive/Genesis. Especially the Team Player.
- Improved Amiga support
- Link support on Gameboys (GBA)

MAME wishes:
Pretty good already. Maybe support for some of the newer BIOS

No expectations, but any of these would be nice to see to any degree at all:

* True QSound support
* Votrax developments
* Improvements to Sega Model 2
* Dreamcast/NAOMI improvements of any kind
* NES PPU rewrite
* Couriersud's return to discrete circuitry
* SDL2/rumble effects where appropriate (psx etc.)

Also: Happy New Year everyone.

Let me dream: some more collaboration from Japanese collectors to obtain dumps of old carts (for systems like pc6001 or bandai rx78) before they all go bitrot

about bandai rx78, while there are no classic titles around, we should be able to develop and share homebrew titles - for that, would be really great having documentation, like how to draw stuff on the display area, how can we get stuff from cartridges and cassettes running (as developing, and as from user side)
