MAME v0.140u2
#240669 - 12/08/10 10:15 AM

http://mamedev.org/

0.140u2
-------

MAMETesters Bugs Fixed
----------------------
- 04027: [Crash/Freeze] All sets in 20pacgal.c: Game does not
successfully boot (Aaron Giles)
- 04111: [DIP/Input] timesold, timesold1, btlfield: Coins are not
reacting correctly (MCU problem) (stephh)
- 03879: [Crash/Freeze] pbst30, pbst30b, pitbossm, pitbossma: Game
does not boot (Mariusz Wojcieszek)

Source Changes
--------------
Fixed problems with i2cmem. Cubo CD32 games now save and load settings
properly. [Mariusz Wojcieszek]

Cleaned up many duplicate inputs and fixed others in a number of
drivers. [Tafoid]

SDL: Support -uifont for using arbitrary TrueType fonts on Linux/BSD
builds. This takes full pathname/filename to the font, and the name
can have styles appended as in Windows: [ b ] for bold, [ i ] for italic,
[ s ] for strikethrough, and [ u ] for underlined. Fonts are rendered at
a size of 120 points and scaled down by the core, which looks superb
on high-res displays. (Liberation Sans that comes with most recent
distros looks really good). [R. Belmont]

Warning: Linux/BSD builds now require SDL_ttf 2.x. On Fedora the
required package names are "SDL_ttf" and "SDL_ttf-devel".

tms7000: Corrected two opcodes: typo in inv_b and JPZ was wrong in
official TI document. [Gilles Fetis]

SDL: -uifont now can also look up system font families like Windows
[R. Belmont]

Take some driver_device classes that cover multiple drivers and
split them so that each driver gets their own driver_device class.
In most cases, these drivers got entangled because of audio/mcu code
that was shared between multiple drivers: [Atari Ace]

* espial/marineb/zodiak
- common code duplicated
* m52/m57/m58/m62/travrusa
- common code in audio/irem.c
* junofrst/pooyan/rallyx/rocnrope/timeplt/tutankm
- common code in audio/timeplt.c
* hyperspt/sbasketb/trackfld/yiear
- common code in audio/trackfld and audio/hyprolyb.c
* 40love/bking/buggychl/msisaac
- common code in machine/buggychl.c

SDL: OS X support for -uifont [Tim Lindner]

SDL: Build fixes for Ubuntu, -uifont non-ASCII rendering fix
[R. Belmont, Barry Rodewald]

SDL: Mac compile warning fix [Wilbert Pol]

Added bare bones irq support to V810 CPU [Miodrag Milanovic]

Updated Naomi's M2/M3 decryption. On the fly decryption of Virtua
Striker III is now possible. [Andreas Naive]

Fixed interrupt handing in V810 core, and flag position in PCW
[Miodrag Milanovic]

SDL: add ptty (*IX/OS X) and sockets (all SDL builds) capability
[Tim Lindner, R. Belmont]

Added Button 3 to the original Yie Ar Kung-Fu boardsets. While not
shown in manual, there is function for these buttons and the emulation
should account for this possibility. Mapping is off by default.
[Tafoid]

CPS-1 updates [Team CPS-1]:
* Added The King of Dragons (World 910805) and set as new parent
* Minor cleanups and fixes
* Added Mega Man: The Power Battle (CPS1, USA 951006) and set as new

labels where wrong and added pcb infos to video\cps1.c
* Removed incorrect roms relationship between parent/clones in
ffightj, ffightj1, ffightj2 and cawingj
* Minor cleanups and fixes

Replaced smgolfb with correct dump
[D. Beneke, M. David, Smitdogg, The Dumping Union]

MESS fixes: [Miodrag Milanovic]
* Fixed issue with image empty slot
* Default for writeconfig is now 0 for MESS since it is not needed
anymore
* Fixed handling of mounted devices on hard reset
* Unified some emuopts code, and removed ifdefs

Corrected several rom names in the Sega System32 driver. Most notably
the correct revision for Spider-man & Golden Axe II US sets.
[The Dumping Union]

Hooked up MSM5205 sample playback routines to Rougien, disabled by
default because sample start write handler is still a mystery
[Angelo Salese]

Updated Naomi/Naomi2 M2/M3 encryption. [Andreas Naive]

Fix F4 shortcut so it explicitly labels the address as a number by
preceding it with "0x". This allows F4 to work properly, for example,
on the 68000 stepping to address a6, which also happens to be a
register name. [Aaron Giles]

More updates to Naomi/Naomi2 M2/M3 decryption. [Andreas Naive]

Added proper sample playback in Rougien [Andrew Welburn, Angelo
Salese]

Split the screen device into a separate module. Converted global video
routines into a video_manager. Moved video manager initialization
earlier in startup. [Aaron Giles]

speaking of SDL... new [Re: zzoro]
#240674 - 12/08/10 01:14 PM

I remember playing with it a bit when I first got a PS3. That PS3 has since taken a dirt nap and has been replaced with a slim model with no otheros support.

Now that it can be hacked, is anybody looking into doing a native port (porting mame to run directly from PS3 xmb)?

Ports where you have to break some kind of protection to install them are not looked upon kindly by MAMEdev.

It was only a matter of time. I'm still curious of how it worked in the first place.

This is amusing since the MameDevs had to break protections to get at many of the Roms being documented in this project.

I know what you are getting at with the PS3, but I think it is rather an apt comment to make considering.

What is the third button for in Yie-Ar Kungfu, and why is Mame now adding extra buttons when the manuals do not call for them?

Was this a feature request?

MAME's internal font is still included, right?

I don't want to end up running MAME and have it spit out Comic Sans MS one day.

it is something which is present on the pcb and in MAME it is not mapped to anything by default, so I don't see where the problem is... we might possibly end up masking it in a CONFSETTING, but it has to be documented since it is in the real hardware

What makes things different is new [Re: etabeta]
#240738 - 12/09/10 02:15 AM

That it has been ruled LEGAL to jailbreak for the purposes of installing third party software. If MAME itself is legal, then using a dongle to install it on a PS3 is legal.

Doesn't matter to me new [Re: Naoki]
#240739 - 12/09/10 02:20 AM

I never used online stuff much anyway so I'm sticking to 3.41. The only thing that could make me upgrade is if I purchase a 3D television, then I will upgrade to 3.50 for the 3D bluray support. But by then I'm sure something will be done with 3.5 or above anyway.

System 16 says:

To use your turbo you have to scream into a microphone, you also have to talk to other drivers by saying "YES" or "NO" into the microphone to get extra points. Good fun, but you feel a bit silly screaming into it in the middle of an arcade

Which got me wondering--are there any games in MAME with microphone support now?

Only in the US (MAME is primarily European), and only for hardware that is not currently manufactured.

SNK Playmore stopped manufacturing NEOGEO MVS machines years ago, they only repair. Last licensed game for the system appeared on 2004. SNK Playmore moved to other platforms and consoles years ago.

If that doesn't make NEOGEO MVS System inactive, then you need to realize your calendar is out of date.

Jailbreaking was deemed legal during a case about the iPhone, a product that is most certainly being manufactured (and updated, and so on). Jailbreaking is legal PERIOD.

Ok... not period. I guess if other countries don't follow suit
I'll drop the subject

and stick with whatever FinalBurn is offering

Just wait until the world of PCs ends up as fcuked as this. Running a non-paid, unlicensed-to-Apple-and-Microsoft, freeware program? Trusted Computer™ says no.

Won't affect me and my many pre-Core2 PCs though. They will just die when I can no longer install Windows XP (or when MS themselves write a trojan into a Windows service pack or 'security update' to block all older versions of Windows prior to the current version (including service packs) from accessing the internet, they already succeeded blocking Windows Live Messenger from Windows XP SP1 and older (whilst also blocking older Microsoft WLM/MSN/Windows Messenger clients from connecting to the server, stating that they must update to the new version, which is not even compatible with XP SP1 and doesn't even install!).

[ TIPS ]
- Secret Teams
Kick ball device in team selection screen with specified times.
Namco Starts '80 : Kick 8 times
Namco Starts '90 : Kick 9 times

Also you can fight with the above secret teams in single mode.
When you get the medals with specified number (80's : 3 or 4 medals, 90's : 5 or more medals) then win the cup.
See the scaned image from Arcade game magazine if you want to know how to get the medals.

DX type and SD type are confirmed and DX type has 50-inch projector.
This game can link multi-cabinets and max 8 players joins in the same time.
According to VGL published by AMP group, the year of this game is listed as '99(00.02)' so that printed year on the title screen will be different from real release.
naomi.c says the manufacturer as "Capcom/Namco" but I can't find any info to confirm "Capcom" is developer/distributor about this game.

That's a lie for starters about MSN. I can proove to you that's not the case. I have 3 friends that use the older MSN messenger for XP/Vista, with them running XP/Vista, and they have no troubles what so ever. I had troules with one of my friend's but he was using the latest version.

Really? I never thought of it that way (the MAME being primarily European that is). Interesting. I guess being online it doesn't really matter where things come from, just seeing those words made me think...........

Absolutely true, and some of MAMEDEV's most talented reverse-engineers historically have come from France, Germany, Italy, Poland, England, etc... Not belittling the American and Japanese developers, but these days especially, the dev-team is European-dominated.

I wonder if Pacman is a playable character on the '80s team...

Also, since MAME is Euro-dominated, does that mean we'll see 5 times as many soccer games emulated as other arcade games?

There aren't that many arcade soccer games, although I think at this point we have nearly full coverage of 'em.

Looks very Namco to me. If Capcom helped develop the game, they would most likely have put Ryu, Ken and Rockman/Megaman in there among the Namco mascots; they already had 3D models of the Street Fighter characters as EX2 was only just out at that time.

Game, set, and match to Geezer. He baited the trap, and it's now feasting on Heywood's internal organs.

Fine I'll bite. Nothing was donated, it all just slipped through the hoarding cracks. The "anon" dumps were hoarded away from MAME for months/years and then finally leaked to a couple of people not involved with MAME, probably with a request not to share them with MAME folks but they made their way anyway. If they would have been shared then they would have been credited. As it stands we don't even know exactly who dumped them all, but from this thread it looks like Andy Geezer did some. So next time you should say screw the hoarders because if they had it their way, the dumps wouldn't be in MAME or else they would have submitted them.

Note - some of new Naomi sets (ringout, samba2k, vonot, kingrt66) have maskrom's serial numbers taken kinda "on guess".

If someone have cart PCB's photos of this games - please share it, so we can verify it and name correctly.

Well thanks for clearing that up then, Smitdogg. I was just trying to thank the person/people who helped with the naomi dumps. I dont know anything about the emupolitics behind it.
And in the end I dont care how the games got to MAME as long as they are there.

Oh yeah, hoarders suck!

Just for the record:

I don't hoarde dumps I've supplied them to various people over the years, what they do with them is upto them - actually if you go back a few years I supplied Toby/Sixtoe a DVD full of M3 dumps - once again what he did with them was his business.

All my Naomi dumps went to D for his emulator, but I guess some of the MAME/Guru have the ability to alienate people instead of promoting harmony. I am not not knocking MAME as an entity, just a few "people" have the interpersonal skills of a 5 year old (they probably live alone).

Only a handful of people dislike "geezer", but I'll survive as I've come to terms a long time ago that you can not please everyone.. People that do support me are worth there weight in gold..

c'est la vie..

Sharing Naomi dumps with other known hoarders like you used to do with Alex / publically on his blog comments is still hoarding. In fact it's much worse than someone hoarding quietly.

I'm sure whatever you gave him went on the mamedev ftp and eventually into MAME.

You certainly are knocking MAME because you hate Guru so you treat MAME like it's Guru. This method has never made any logical sense.

Except that you are. Withholding dumps does exactly two things:

1) It hurts MAME as an entity (and especially those of us who fiddle with Naomi)
2) It creates an opportunity for Guru to get the credit rather than you

Meanwhile all this makes Guru more indispensable and he gets to crack open a beer and laugh his ass off. If non-Guru dumpers wanted to actually hurt him and not MAME itself, they'd be filling my email with dumps that Guru then could never get credit for.

Exactly. And that is what I dont get. Some people hate Guru. So what. I am sure he hates them as well. Why punish the rest of the MAME community over a feud with one person? It is a poor excuse. There are alot of people who truly appreciate all the effort given by others. This project will last alot longer than any of us. Why not get some credit in the meantime?

I checked all my e-mails from 2002 to present and I don't recall anyone from MAME asking anything from me (I got some emails from Phil B, but that's about it) - odd because both Makaron and Demul have privately introduced themselves to me - and they got what they asked for.

Anyway end of the day - I work in the arcade industry, I like to keep my business side seperate from my social side, also time is money - I am expected to donate stuff for nil, I don't even use emulators.

I am pleased Guru gets the credit he needs - but then I am sure he isn't so keen to sell any of those Model 3 Step 2 PCBs he had photo on his blog - if he does I know a few Australian operators who would buy them.

I do partially supply MAME dumps, Thomas in Switzerland who sends stuff to Guru gets them from me to begin with..

Apparently there's been some sort of misunderstanding then, because Deunan told me that a person supplying him with dumps had explicitly warned him multiple times about letting anyone associated with MAME have any of the dumps. That person also went into some sort of tirade about him cooperating with me.

If that wasn't you, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

That wasn't Alex, per chance? He supplied Deunan too IRRC. And there was also another (Japanese?) guy called Yuki involved, where Deunan got a majority of his dumps for some time. Anyway, it's perfectly understandable too avoid supporting MAME for reasons originating in Australia.

Withholding dumps hurts MAME devs and end users like yourself. It does nothing to Guru except to ensure that he's indispensable and therefore make it certain we can't excommunicate him.

You want Australia wiped off the map? Start sending me dumps. You want to make Guru a permanent fixture? Keep hoarding. It's that simple.

Experience is valuable but no one is indispensable. That's also how corporations operate since decades. There should be no excuse that experience should give someone the right being a jerk. Also, if "hoarding" could be also defined as letting rot loaned boards for years, then we'll have a winner. An trust me, i, as an end-user, couldn't care less about if there are two boards or two-hundred boards dumped each year. What i care for are the common accusations against people outside of the usual MAME circle/suspects.
