Hi Newb in UK seeking help.

Hi all,
Im new to Mame and loving it. I have decided to have a go at making my own control panel. I have sourced some items on E-Bay.
Any other UK users on here happy to offer me support as I go through this process? I am based in Kent.
For my wiring I know I need the following:
22 gauge stranded wire
.187 quick disconnect
What are these items callled in the UK?
Sorry for the noob questions but we all gotta start somewhere.

BYOAC is an essential resource if you're looking at making your own controllers or cabs.
I've converted and scratch built a few over the years. I'm just over the Thames from you in Thurrock (near Lakeside).

I have ordered my buttons, joystick and Ipac. Gonna get cable and crimps next and then design a control panel from MDF.
Am i right in saying .6mm cable is best? And any particular crimp size?

The guage of the wire isn't too important for the sticks and buttons, you don't want it too thick if you're wiring a lot of controls as you want it to be flexible enough to keep it tidy inside the cab. 6mm should be fine.
With the crimps you want them to make a firm connection with the microswitch spades without having to force them on, I think the ultimarc wiring packs come with 0.25 inch connectors which are fine for most switches.
Plan your CP on a bit of cardboard before doing it on MDF. You need to concentrate on the underside as the controls and wiring take more space underneath than the controls do on top, look at where the wiring is going to go, where the i-pac is going to be mounted etc.
When wiring the sticks, bear in mind that the microswitch positions don't directly correspond to the joystick position (pushing right on the joystick activates the left microswitch underneath etc).
Daisy Chain your ground wires. Each button and stick doesn't need a separate ground going directly to the i-pac. You can connect the ground wires from switch to switch and just have a single ground connection to the i-pac.
Its all pretty straightforward once you get started, the main thing is to plan ahead and be methodical, decide on your layout and prepare, measure and cut the wires beforehand.

Just make sure your wire size is correct for your crimp size. If its too small the crimp wont grip the wire properly and will pull off.
0.6mm would be fine for the crimp I linked to which is the metric equivalent of a .187 quick disconnect. I assume you need this size for the connectors on the switches. If the crimps are too wide they will normally still go on but will be a bit of a sloppy fit.
