DU Update: Deco Cassette Update
#286041 - 05/12/12 05:44 AM

We are still working hard on Deco cassette updates. We're in the middle of dumping:

DS Telejan (version 4-A-3)
Pro Golf (version 1-A)
Hamburger (version 0-A-0)

A couple of the dongles are troublesome but will be done soon.

100 deals?

Obvious not DECO CASSETTE system all of them?Or are they?

Also are there others cassette in your schedule,or in your hands already?
Like Deco kid,or Manhattan or is a matter what did you find each time?

What is a cost of one cassette,if i may ask?

Sorry for my english!

See CTOJAH's reply.

> Obvious not DECO CASSETTE system all of them?Or are they?

No but there are some games from the same era or older that I am trying for but we are talking auctions so who knows which I'll win.

> Also are there others cassette in your schedule,or in your hands already?

The situation in Japan is too complex for me to even answer that. I can tell you I've announced everything I'm at liberty to announce and if you buy a Deco cassette game not in mame and send it to me then we can dump and release it immediately and we might be able to borrow and dump ones from Japan collectors at some point, maybe.

> What is a cost of one cassette,if i may ask?

Varies wildly. No set price.

Thanks you spend your time,to answer me!

I think I understand some of it.

So it is better for someone irrelative like me in auctions,to donate to someone who knows this game well!

About prices,i mean you can get a Deco cassette, with less than 50 euros,70 dollars,or it is much more expensive because of the rarity?

Well times are hard in my country (Greece),but I will try something, donation is more possible, in near time!

Just to add a description about deco kid,is a vertical shooter, imagine something, almost the same with ,Scramble- KONAMI 1981,with a super kid instead a spaceship, and bases on both of the side ,but vertical, nothing to do with manhattan, witch is a skill game like angel kids!

Thanks again four your patience!

Did the company that produced the Wii Data East Collection use the Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory dump that is used in MAME?

Is there a link to some Deco Cassette background and information (apart from wiki and atariproto)? Last game I tried that was labelled DECO it wanted me to wait 90 seconds for something to happen.

When we flying over to Japan to do some real treasure hunting?

The common ones you might find untested for 5 dollars. The rare ones might cost over 500. There's no set prices. 99% of them are dead in garbage cans or in collections not being sold.

Don't know about a site like that, the driver file in mame maybe. I can go to Japan as soon as you pay for the ticket but it probably wouldn't help. There are several rare 80's games available for several thousand dollars each if you have money to burn. Send me a PM if you are interested in finding out specifics about them.

Hold down the fast forward key in MAME until the 90 seconds is up. It's invaluable for games that load off tapes/disks/CDs (or program flash ROMs like Seibu SPI/Konami 573/CPS-3/etc)

Thanks Smitdogg!

"99% of them are dead in garbage cans or in collections not being sold. "

I guess this is where the truth hurts. Stuff that doesn't get quickly preserved may be "lost."

I was saddened to hear a local arcade trashed a KOF96 PCB, and its "common" enough I could snag one at almost anytime.

But that's one of my "faults" I get a bit too weepy over hearing about "working" tech thrown in the trash because it means a lot to me even if the tech isn't "worth" anything.

I'm a sentimental softie (maybe fool) when it comes to tech.

Real Treasures is what the strip club name translates to

No real interest in any specific games or to burn cash.

Any idea why the one cassette is regular sized? I thought all the DECO tapes were the minis?
Also do you have a photo of the inside of the security dongle?

Some came in both sizes but the minis seem to be much more common. I have the inside of "a" dongle but most of them we extract with custom hardware/soft so they don't have to be destroyed.

There are two sizes, the mini cassettes are the most common and the regular sized ones are only for the older games. I think those old games were re-released on the mini size as well.

The dongles are filled with epoxy to keep people from looking at the circuit board. Once it's removed there's a bunch of TTL chips (buffers, counters, logic gates) and the odd PROM or EPROM. Some dongles have internal jumpers that were set up prior to being encased in epoxy. That's about it.

Thank you for the information!. I assume there was some sort of upgrade kit available for those with the larger/older tape drives at some point?

Well that's what I look like with my shirt off and I did de-earth the dongle in the nude aside from the glove so I would say that is accurate/borderline psychic activity.
