Raiden Fighters Games CPU Error
#315593 - 10/09/13 05:45 PM

Hello i was wanting to ask some quick questions if you guys dont mind

i get this error with the Raiden Fighters Games on boot using older mame sources after i compiled the driver

Quote:

CPU#0 uses wrong 32-bit handlers for address space 0 (should be 8-bit)

i was wondering.....
What caused this kind of error?? and in what Mame Release was it fixed?? any advice would be much appreciated

The error is self-explanatory: you're using 32-bit read/write handlers for an 8-bit CPU. That doesn't happen in any version of the driver distributed by MAMEdev, so you must have screwed something up badly.

Note that we generally don't support backporting drivers; it's effectively impossible to go from current MAME to anything pre-0.106 without just writing a new driver from scratch for the old core, and mobile devices are finally coming with CPUs that handle modern MAME with no modifications (e.g. the Nvidia Shield).

Well thanks for the replys at least one was helpfull
i picked up a source based on mame84 it's kinda a mishmash as some drivers
are from later mame builds the seibuspi.c is the only one from later builds causing issues
i'll grab another driver and compair it against the one i have

Why are you trying to build a hacked-up MAME 0.84 anyway? That version is nine years old and isn't even in a performance "sweet spot" for old/mobile hardware--the major MAME core change in the 0.84 cycle was to the input subsystem, which shouldn't have much effect on CPU requirements.

Reason is simple it's the only source available for the xbox port of MAME
i have a build everythings cool although the xbox is limited on what games it
can handle well the only issue was the Raiden Games which i thought i ask about

Raiden and all of the Raiden Fighters is working. Raiden 2 and up doesn't work. Even though the Raiden Fighters aren't 100% yet. Just try out MAME 0.150 over out of date MAME. Trust me you won't look back.

I prefer a PC Desktop to play MAME. Much faster speed. Almost all of the games that is working is at max speed anyway. Look at my computer spec.

There is no reason to play MAME on the Xbox. Unless players are so poor to have a real computer.

If you "looked back", you'd see better graphics and sound and fewer bugs for a lot of classic games. We've done a lot of improvements to games since 0.84.

And if you looked forward, you'd see that a Gigabyte BRIX will run modern MAME at full framerate on your TV with far lower noise, heat, and general hassle than an Xbox. It's also about the size of a DVD case, which is much nicer than the Xbox.

The reason it doesn't work is because you're trying to hack a driver from a later release into an older version of MAME. There is no release where this error occurs. Asking when it was fixed is going to get you sarcastic responses. If you want to make frankenMAME out of bits of different releases you're on your own.

You don't think that asking the person who supplied you with the non working source would be the person to ask?

You asked what MAME release it was fixed when it doesn't even come from us? And you wonder why you can't get help?

Look dude stop using an Xbox version. Hackish broken piece shit ever. You can't make it better. So give up on this.

Just use MAME on your PC. Case closed.

I prefer to run MAME on my PC with the case open showing all the wires and stuff. It looks 31337 so I score more pussy.

As harsh as this sounds, it's the truth. I have a soft modded Xbox, don't get me wrong but xbox users are seriously grasping at straws and the logic puzzles me when it comes to Mame.

Why punish yourself with an old build of Mame that is so hacked up to run games fast when Christ you can buy an old PC for crap or even get one at a goodwill store and it will be more powerful to run Mame on than the Xbox. This is not 2003 anymore guys, it's 2013. It's a serious case of denial.

Back when Conroe first launched (which seems like a lifetime ago) Some friends and I bought some Crucial Ballistix tracer
RAM because they overclocked like beasts.

It was funny to see the lights dancing so fast when it's in heavy use.

Have you stopped to consider what "some" might be?

Nope. The only time the lights are off is when you have fried your sticks and you don't want that to happen.

I thought maybe there are wires hook up to the board. I never own one that have those kind of stuff. If I did then I would've known and not asking. lol

I didn't know cats liked computers. I thought they just rubbed their fur against the computer's case.
