windows monitor identity issue
#327030 - 06/16/14 03:42 AM

Anyone ever run into an issue where Windows 7 is identifying (enumerating) your primary monitor as #2, no matter how it's plugged in? Solutions?

No matter how it's plugged in? That's weird. Uninstall the video card driver, reboot, see what happens?

All I know is that the video card port "order" seems to be hard coded in the video cards BIOS.
For example, I have my new monitor on the DisplayPort. But when I plugged in the old one on DVI, it became the primary display, BIOS and POST went to that display, login screen on OS X etc etc.
One day I plugged it into the other DVI port by accident and that fixed it, everything is back on the display that's connected to the DisplayPort.

POST and boot-up is still on the correct display?

It does hard drives that way, so I wouldn't be surprised if monitors are also handled like that.

ATI 5570 with a DVI, and a HDMI/VGA shared RAMDAC. 42" LCD as the srimary, 32" as the secondary. 42" is always identified as the primary. If the 42" is in solo, it's ID'd as 1. Popped in the 32", and the 42" gets ID'd as 2.

Tried swapping inputs between the two monitors and the same thing happens.

I've deleted registry keys, run every automated display registry setting cleaner I could find, re-installed drivers, re-enumerated, etc, etc, etc...noting.

Yes, I've had this happen. Unfortunately I had to ultimately use the AMD Catalyst Control center to 'swap' them. I think it's in Common Display Tasks.
