You pretty much have to go digging around in the driver source code. Driver for Speed Freak is cinemat.c
I don't want to discourage you, but I can tell you from experience that 4-way shifters are a pain in the arse. Speed Freak seems to have something extra weird going on with the start button and gear 4 using the same port bit.
