yeah, as long as drivers support it then you can enable autosave and pick off right where you closed things down, as if the machine had never been powered off at all, which of course does keep scores intact.
however, if you reset / reboot the machine at any point with F3 it will of course erase the scores, just like the real machine would if you turned it off and on again tho which is what you'd be doing.
both methods have downsides, anything that's trying to make a game do something it wouldn't naturally do is going to have potential downsides.
