I know many of the games for HBMAME are just modded versions of the originals, but somewhere along the road someone recognized these titles as unique and worthy of cataloging, archiving, and supporting. This is where my fascination resides. What was adjusted to make these games worthy of recognition? What makes them unique? Why are they shared? Why should someone care to play them?
Generally, hacked games are created to either make them easier, harder, more fun, fix a bug, or outright change them completely, but I cannot find any information about any of these titles. Sure they work and they are playable, but what sets them apart? To the uninformed they feel, play, and just might as well be the original game, and that is disappointing.
I am really hoping someone can connect the dots for me. Someone with the knowledge to connect a CRC to a description. I think its important in order for these games to be appreciated and get the recognition they deserve.
