Performance hits for unemulated features being added are pretty much unavoidable. This is one of those times where it's better to do it right than to worry about speed. Might be a good time to consider formalizing your plan of attack-- unless you really enjoy working on whatever grabs you that day? If that's the case, then certainly carry on-- I enjoy watching the incremental updates either way, and always have.
