So many DK fans... Who remembers the Champ remakes, among them Champ Kong? Anyway, to the OP, I don't remember what I was looking for or how I stumbled on it, probably just looking for arcade remakes to play, but I found Nicola's MultiPac emulator (precursor to MAME) and Dave Spicer's Sparcade. I think that was the one out at the time rather than the original DASArcade. I started following these emulators and later ones that were released like Retrocade, the NeoGeo and CPS-2 emulators, Killer Instinct emu (though I had never actually played the KI games before) and several other game-specific emus, Daphne... Somewhere along the line I found the console emulators of the time like NESticle and those as well. To repeat what was already said, good times.
Edit: Just found a really old emu folder with not only Sparcade, but some others I forgot about like RAGE, HIVE, SegaC2 and System 16 emulators, JAS (JRok's Arcade Simulation), M72 and JFF!
