Must be some sort of mistake on those unsupported, unofficial softwares is my guess on it.
I get the exact same result here using all versions of 146. Selecting Play CD-I on the menu presents a blue screen that just sits there with MAME still running and being completely functional.
I kinda have my doubts you played this game on u3 unless I'm not doing something correctly here.
