Seriously: what good would it do? You pretty much answer what sucks about it (other than it being hopelessly outdated and including backported drivers, which others have already mentioned elsewhere in this thread) below.
What possible result do you expect of everyone basically stating this, other than that there will be someone with an opinion to the contrary? At least one of those people has already come out of the woodwork, and the completely obvious tit-for-tat arguments are ensuing. Were you hoping for the MW Army(tm) to descend upon the CoinOPS forums, keyboard rage at the ready, and through deft flaming of the regulars there bring an end to this situation?

Summary: people do stupid things with the MAME source (as well as others) and don't give the original authors credit or make their changes available. I, for one, am shocked. Shocked, I say, to learn of such flagrant disregard that clearly never takes place anywhere else or with any other project
