Nah, I don’t think it was ever that close. The DC cops may have let the “protesters” in a bit too easily and posed for selfies, but the secret service agents have a specific job, to protect the lives of key government figures. They’re basically specialised, elite bodyguards. The secret service was prepared for this, and as we saw they were prepared to shoot when shit got real.

It’s pretty clear that Pence is sick of Trump’s bullshit. He called in the national guard himself to secure the area. Even if Trump resigns (or the 25th is invoked), leaving Pence as president, he’s not going to preemptively pardon Trump.

Trump’s plan, like most of his plans, relied on talking shit and doubling down on it. Listen to that call to the Georgia officials where he begs them to “find” votes. It’s absolutely pathetic. He doesn’t understand the election process either. If he did, he would have realised that Pence’s role in counting the votes and announcing the president-elect is ceremonial, and Pence is bound to follow process.

I don’t know what Cruz thinks he stood to gain by challenging certifications. It would have made more sense in the days of the Pony Express, when there was actually a chance of things being tampered with in transit. With electronic communications and media, we know all the counts already, and the process is under more scrutiny than ever before. Cruz had no power to do anything besides delay the announcement. His behaviour won’t have endeared him to anyone besides the lunatic fringe.

Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell knew all along that they couldn’t change the result, too. They just kept telling Trump what he wanted to hear for as long as possible so he’d keep paying them. They just want to milk him as much as possible. Isn’t capitalism great? Notice how all his lawyers would say all sorts of bullshit in front of a news camera, but wouldn’t present it as evidence to a court. That’s because they don’t want to make themselves guilty of perjury.

But keep it up guys, it provides some much-needed entertainment in this very depressing period of COVID19 and movement restrictions.
