My guess is the support for that rom was deleted / removed from MAME some time ago and it never got supported in HBMAME after it was deleted from the source code in MAME.

Two examples come to my mind of ROMs being deleted from MAME source. Steeplejack is one romset that should be added again if it hasn’t yet.

The first one was a graphical hack of Crazy Climber known as Steeplejack that was added in 2001 before Nicola Salmoria made the decision that graphic only hacks should not be supported. Aaron Giles dropped that policy when he took over in 2005, Steeplejack was lost by that time. I don’t know if that has ever been found again.

One of the Desert Patrol sets being deleted is the other that comes to mind. Folks wouldn’t remember unless their favorite game is affected. You will probably need to back track through the previous release page of older MAME releases to go through the what’s new text files of each release and try and find if the rom set was deleted by an old commit.

Even though it will be time consuming, look through any of the whatsnew.txt files.
