Grown Brits call their mother "mummy" which sounds very ridiculous to us, like a mix between gay and absurdity. We say only mom or mother or if you're a black person from the ghetto, maybe "moms". Even "mommy" is only used here by little kids and never used by adults unless you're mimicking a little kid like "I want my mommy". A "mummy" to us can only mean this.
Anyway pretty funny maps.

Grown Brits also say "Bitty" to their "Mummy". Get used to it

Nope that's perfect German. Sounds like you've been out of the motherland for so long that you can't speak your own language anymore. Time to go get back to your roots.

Some Indians do this as well. I was at a friend's house when his mom called, and it really does sound bizarre and childish to American ears. Add the fact that he had to half-shout and repeat himself a lot because she's hard of hearing, and it was a very uncomfortable conversation to overhear.

Actually when I think of adults saying 'Mummy' its usually over-privileged, green welly wearing sloan-ranger type girls' name for their personal cash dispenser / person to steal prescription highs off
Most adults say 'Mum' unless their from north of Nottingham in which case it's 'Mam' - true story!
