They said that about the real estate market, too. It's great as long as you bail before the bottom drops out.

The real estate market was a ridiculous debt bubble. Whereas precious metals are directly correlated to currency self-destruction which is a 1-way street. Different ball-game entirely.

You don't wanna sell what you have, trust me.

But if you do, sell them on eBay, you'll get a few bucks per ounce more than spot price right now.

I know the price is going to keep going up for a while but I only have 9 ounces for sale at the moment and my car needs work. I have them on eBay but they seem to be way more interested in minted ones. I'm supposed to get a lot more soon that I'll be holding onto for a while but, like I said above, small amount and my car needs work now.

I've got several silver dollars circa 1890s, are those worth anything...numismatic or otherwise? They were given to me when my grandfather died and have never really been into coin collecting.

When the currency self destructs, and a loaf of bread cost 100 billionty dollars, you really think a buyer for your silver will be readily available?

That chunk of metal is good for making coins and jewelry. Personally, I'm sinking all my money into potatoes and guns.

In a hyper-inflation people will beg to unload their entire life savings in exchange for whatever they can get their hands on. It happens every time. If anything, the problem is that there are never enough sellers who are interested in trading what they have for worthless paper.

Well, you'd have to ascertain the proper grade (condition) of the coins and then look up their specific years. The mintage quantity (ie. rarity) can vary wildly from one year to the next, which affects price.

Google is your friend here.

Thinkingh that nowadays precious metals are more or less worth, more or less valuable or secure than other stuff shows little economy and bursatile knowledge. In the current market economy, everything is worth as much as what people who speculates with it wants. Nowadays the big players speculate even with countries. Earlier this year some groups joined forces trying to sunk and buy Spain's debt (failed miserably). But that makes you think, that probably other smaller countries aren't that protected and maybe debt or futures of a whole country is in the hands of some companies which just want to make money even if they ruin the country.

Yeah, here you have a fine economist. I'll give you all my money and love and let you invest it as you want.

Just don't sell me to Smitty. He'll pimp me all night long and I want to leave that part of my life in the past.

I'm honestly not sure what you're trying to say here. Asset classes rise and fall against one another in cycles. You can price one asset (like crude oil for example) in terms of gold (instead of dollars). It's a ratio which keeps fluctuating, and this occurs between all assets. So certain things can be worth more or less than other things at any given point in time.

Right now food grains and precious metals are leading the pack (ie. rising at higher percentages than other stuff like real estate), because the demand is higher.

What something is worth is determined by the market, yes.

People was calling me Pi before I hit my twenties, and that was around the time I started to connect by modem to BBSs and FidoNet. I never liked my real name, but now I don't like my nick either.

I think I've mentioned that fact many times, so you shouldn't be surprised. And thinking that everyone in the Loony Bin is in fact you, you should know everything about everyone. So don't act as if you didn't knew.

The best place to sell is ebay.

However I don't plan on doing so any time soon.
