Hi Gang,
I've been playing with the idea of a virtual cab for a while now and I bit the bullet and got a cheapo 4K TV. Man, the hi-res bezels look so awesome on it that I'm now inspired to create and seek out more hi-res Bezels and Marquees.
I don't want to go into too much detail, but I was working on some other artwork when I had a catastrophic raid failure and lost 24TB of "stuff," including my mame artwork.
So, I'm starting over again.. sigh..
At any rate, I'm going to kick things off with a quick G.I. Joe Bezel and marquee that I put together, with more to follow. If anyone has any other "alternate" artwork they would like to share, please post or PM me or even upload it to the FTP site.
If the "unofficial" art work is better put in another location, just let me know.

Hi Guys,
I tried to clean up a scan of the Zwackery bezel I found. However, I don't know which font the right side of the instructions uses. So, if anyone knows, let me know and I can update the text.
EDIT: Thanks to Jibmums I updated the font to more closely match the original.
Although this isn't completely made up, it's still unofficial (obviously).

Just in case you were not aware, the Zwackery bezel is available from MrDo! as a single hi Rez scan. Might as well be working with the best source.

In looking at my source, I think I am using a scan from the mameworldinfo FTP site (Scans - NEED TO BE CLEANED folder).
I don't have the graphic skill to do the fonts by hand. However, I can certainly supply the modifications that I've done, if it'd help.

Yup, that's the right one.
I would save out a portion of the text and use the what's my font web site to try an identify it.

There is another font web site that asks you a series of questions about the font.
Good luck and I'll lend a hand if I get a moment this week. Once the font is identified I may have it if it's not typical.

They didn't use the diamond dot back then. I wonder why they didn't use the dot this time? Maybe they switch it back then for their taste.

Yup, hence the "not absolutely exact". Most of the letters are very very close to the bezel font, but not quite perfect. I've found when I do artwork for my 3dArcade models that the fonts used back in the 70s & 80s are not exactly the same as their versions today, but once they're rasterized and sampled down, you really can't tell.

I decided to match the colors with the bezel, so I assume the colors are off quite a bit from the original, but maybe some can use it..

Thanks for the kind words.
I need to actually build my cabinet. So, I think I'm going to put some time into that. Hopefully, I can do the bulk of the cabinet soon. I just need a couple of parts to make sure everything will fit properly. After that, I can see about picking up an official bezel.

If you have the Zaxxon and Super Zaxxon "text" as a layer, would you mind posting ones without the "Zaxxon" graphic? I think I like the more minimalist approach. The Sega logo works though.

Do you have any other Lay files to use as a base?
Bascially, you need to create a lay file that defines the Element (image) and a View that tells MAME how to display the Bezel and Screen.

I've messed with the layout generator for hours and cannot figure it out... It's probably the simplest thing to use but I'm at a loss at generating a layout file for this bezel...

I don't know if Nightvoice and/or Lamprey have the time, or desire, to create the Zips. However, if they need someone to work on some of these by creating the LAY files, then I'll volunteer my time.
There's a bigger issue here regarding Zips, imo. Take for example, Strikers 1945 - this game is sitting ready to be created in my "to do" folder. So, soon there will be a second Bezel for that game. I know from my efforts here that people much prefer a single ZIP with all available artwork for a game, rather than having multiple Zips and either leaving it to others to merge them, or expecting users to copy and paste Zip's as desired. Again - I offer to volunteer my time to combine any, and all Zip's into a single file if that is something Lamprey and/or Nightvoice would like to do.
To Cool_factor I would say - tell me about it! The generator was a little too much for my brain too. I ended up setting everything up manually, but it was easier for me since I create the images, and therefore have complete control over image size. When putting other peoples artwork into a ZIP, I've found simply doing the math in my head is the best way to handle things. IMO.
Finally - I thank Lamrey and Nightvoice for the work they've done on Custom Bezels. It's always good to see their efforts.
If a decision is made to create Zip's for the work that is here, I volunteer BK to grab all the Bezel artwork and pass it on to me for ZIP creation.
