> This movie sucks so bad, but I love every second.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about film "guilty pleasures" and wanted to start a thread about which bad movies people like despite being bad/boring/corny to the rest of humankind.

So I guess this could very well be an awesome start. However I'd ask people to leave movies out of the lists if they have achieved cult status, or movies that usually get above average ratings. I really want the true "guilty pleasures". The movies you'd be kind of embarassed to confess you like them and watch from time to time.

Some of mine:
* Elektra (I don't even like Jennifer Garner).
* Rocky IV (I usually skip the boring parts and watch the fights and the "glorious training" music video).
* Road House (OMG).
* The Beastmaster (Dr. Doolittle meets Conan, but the tiger dies a couple years later and that makes me sad).
* Blade II (So Tough Looking).
* Godzilla (Small characters, but great Godzilla).
* Soldier (don't ask me why, and also Connie Nielsen is ashtonishingly beautiful in this one).
* Bloodsport (Enuff said).

Wound up, can't sleep, can't do anything right, little honey / Oh, since I set my eyes on you. / I tell you the truth.
I can't get it right / Get it right / Since I met you...

The original, the one that "featured" a text file from MAME (computer screen somewhere), or another?

Haven't thought of any movies I've watched repeatedly that fit your criteria. I guess I don't look for "bad" movies enough.

I'm right there with you on Beastmaster. The scene where the hawk(?) rescues the girl before her sacrifice still sends chills up my spine.

I'll buy the blu-ray day one if/when it's ever released here in the States.

Thanks for ultra-young Angelina Jolie's nipple slip. She was like 19-20 by then anyway.

But I don't know if Hackers qualify as "guilty pleasure". It reaches 6.1 in iMDB (whine all you want about their votes). I voted it with a 4 but I still watch it from time to time. It's cheesy and fun.

The one with Matthew Broderick and Hank Azaria. It fits the "cheesy but fun" or "cheesy and fun" categories.

Sometimes I feel the urge to make a different edit of these movies, reducing them to 40-50 minutes and substituting the slow "serious" parts with quick cuts of the conversation enough to follow the plot.

Yeah, that's the one. '98s "let's pretend it was a different giant lizard since we're stuck with it." Still, only saw it the one time.

> No love for Cyborg or Invasion USA?

I saw recently Invasion USA in a "guilty pleasures" list but I've not watched it ever. Apparently the dosage of chucknorriness in it forces you to use sunglasses to watch it or just get blind.

I've never watched Cyborg either, but I'm looking for it.

You know, the line between "guilty pleasure" and "just another lame movie I saw the other day" is not amount of cheesiness, campy fun overdosage, just personal taste, so it's hard to really recommend your own "guilty pleasures" to others. However from time to time I have a "let's watch some bad movies now" moment and bad movies that amuse other people might just get in the list as well.

I have "Manos, The Hands Of Fate" for "let's watch some experimental cinema" moments.

Can be enjoyable... Been a few years since I watched it.

Hang on, by that standard, The Beastmaster doesn't qualify either: it also scores 6.1 overall on IMDb!

You're right, I didn't notice. Well, all this guilty pleasure stuff is just personal, so let's apply double and triple standards.

So now in my list a new guilty pleasure has appeared:

2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968).

And also a zillion anime movies ^_^

There is no need to be guilty about 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's a bona-fide masterpiece; a milestone. One of my all-time favorites too.

Not a movie, but cheesy enough was a particular episode of Buck Rogers. Buck tells what's her name Wilma about Disco (I think) and she has no clue what it is, Buck talks to the band for a second and they pick it up immediately.

That's my favourite scifi movie, and I also think it's one of the best movies ever, up there with The Godfather.

However my mention was jokingly done about the double and triple standards for putting a movie with high rating in a guilty pleasure list.

In any case, 2001 is one of those movies that many people cringe about when mentioned. It's not the standard narrative movie like The Godfather, The Green Mile, Citizen Kane and other people's favorites. For the longest time I was alone in my circle of movie fans in praising 2001 and to this date I've failed to see it with any of my friends.

I haven't seen Polish Vampire in Burbank many times but when I was pretty young, it was a guilty pleasure. The darn thing is a 4.9 on imdb!

Then again I guess you could call it a pretty big success, considering its super low budget. It technically made well over 100X its cost

You can't loose with Eddie Deezen doing a character named "Sphincter". I'm sure Smit will have something to say about that ^_^

iMDB says "Budget $3,000 (estimated)", with a box office gross of $500,000. That's 166 times the budget

There are a lot of stories about ultra-low budget movies having a success. El Mariachi, The Blair Witch Project, etc... However there are no stories about the thousands of ultra-low budget movies which went totally unknown to the rest of the universe.

It does have the ultra-rare Entertainment Sciences "Bouncer" arcade game in it.

Oddly enough, I don't remember seeing screengrabs on MASH's "Arcade At The Movies" page, just a one-line email mention on his last page.
